In de loop van het Premier League seizoen 2025-2026 presenteren we constant een alternatieve competitie stand op basis van expected goals (xG).
Wedstrijden worden gewonnen op basis van gescoorde en tegengekomen doelpunten, maar expected goals laat zien hoe wedstrijden verliepen in termen van dominantie. Je zou zelfs kunnen zeggen dat xG aangeeft wie een wedstrijd verdiende te winnen.
Dus hoe zou de Premier League stand eruit zien als xG de uitslag bepaalde?
De expected goals-gecorrigeerde stand 2025-26
Om onze stand te berekenen, hebben we elke individuele wedstrijd van het seizoen bekeken. We ronden de xG waarde af naar het dichtstbijzijnde gehele getal.
Als voorbeeld: Manchester City had een xG van 2,47 tegen Wolverhampton Wanderers in speelronde 1, afgerond naar 2. Wolves had een xG van 0,56, afgerond naar 1. Het xG-resultaat was dus Man City 2-1 Wolves.
