Young Boys will look to maintain their unbeaten start to this 2020/21 Swiss Super League season when they welcome Basel at the Stadion Wankdorf on Saturday at 7:30pm (UK Time).
The hosts are defending Super League champions and won in a comfortable manner last season, losing just six games. They have experienced ups and downs in the early part of the new campaign, but remain undefeated after six rounds. Young Boys have won three and drawn three of their six league games so far and are tied on 12 points with current league leaders Lugano.
Young Boys’ only defeat in their past 11 competitive fixtures has come in the Europa League, at home to Roma, their only home loss in 15 games across all competitions. And Young Boys haven’t suffered defeat at home to Basel since a 3-2 loss back in 2016.
Meanwhile, Basel only finished third in the Super League last season, proving once again they aren’t the same team they were a couple of years ago when they dominated Swiss football. Once again, Basel had a poor start to the season with two wins, two defeats and one draw in their opening five games.
This leaves them sixth in the league table, already four points behind the top three spots. Basel did well to link two wins in the Super League recently, but then lost 1-0 at Zurich prior to the international break. They have also been poor on the road as their recent record reads just three victories in their last ten competitive trips.
Can Young Boys maintain their unbeaten start to the season? Or will Basel manage to put their campaign back on track with a victory at the Stadion Wankdorf?
