As much as we like to believe votes are made purely on merit, politics and bias naturally play a part in the decision-making process for some footballers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It is not unheard of to see Real Madrid players forget Lionel Messi exists, or for players to vote for their teammates simply because they have to look them in the eye on Monday morning. And let&#8217;s face it, it&#8217;s basically sacrosanct for national team coaches to vote for those in their squad (if any make the shortlist).<\/p>\n<p>So, cast your minds back to 2020 and see if you can remember how some of these prominent footballers voted.
