David Raya&#8217;s loan move was made permanent, while Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino also came in. Raheem Sterling and Neto were loan arrivals for the first team.<\/p>\n<p>Going the other way were the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale as Arsenal looked to trim the fat of their squad. There weren&#8217;t any real departures of note in January, while despite a bid for Ollie Watkins, Arteta failed to bolster his squad before deadline day. And that has come back to bite them.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Who are Arsenal&#8217;s most important players?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Arsenal&#8217;s top Premier League Golden Boot contender: Kai Havertz<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Kai Havertz could return from injury before the season is up, but he missed a big chunk due to injury. And the German&#8217;s absence has been telling. He&#8217;s endured a couple of barren runs, but the German remained Arsenal&#8217;s go-to man in attack. He did play in midfield at times, which also hampered his scoring numbers. Nonetheless, Havertz has scored nine goals in the Premier League this season, still more than any other Arsenal player.<\/p>\n<p>The German still sits joint-second among the Arsenal squad shots on target (21) and top for non-penalty Expected Goals (9.47). The Englishman was the first to hit double figures for assists in the Premier League this season, registering 10. But his creativity had to take a break with Saka missing a bit part of the season through injury.<\/p>\n<p>It was a big blow for Arsenal, with Saka a creative threat from open play and set pieces. The Englishman has now returned from injury, and leads Arsenal for chances created with 50. Of course, his main position is as a defensive midfielder, but Partey has also featured as a fill-in right-back. As a result, Partey leads Arsenal for tackles with 80 and fouls on 40. But, Partey&#8217;s tackles and fouls don&#8217;t exactly convert to yellow cards, with just four in the Premier League this season.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Arsenal&#8217;s rising star: Ethan Nwaneri<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Arsenal have had a lot of bright young players on their books over the years. And Ethan Nwaneri appears to be the brightest. He&#8217;s the youngest-ever player in Arsenal&#8217;s history in the Premier League, making his debut aged 15 years and 181 days in 2022-23. Nwaneri has gone on to play 38 times for Arsenal, including 25 in the Premier League this season.<\/p>\n<p>Nwaneri had been filling in for the injured Saka on the wing since just after Christmas, enjoying a good run of performances. This is despite a little injury of his own. The Dutchman has lost just 0.33 challenges per 90.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CB: William Saliba &#8211; 60% &#8211; <\/strong>The Frenchman has been tough to beat on the floor this season, winning 61.46% of his ground duels in the Premier League. He remains an excellent passer too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CB: Gabriel &#8211; 75% &#8211; <\/strong>Gabriel has formed a perfect partnership with Saliba, with the pair providing the platform for another strong Arsenal defence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>LB: Myles Lewis-Skelly &#8211; 54% &#8211; <\/strong>Lewis-Skelly hasn&#8217;t done too badly since being converted to a left-back, winning 72.73% of his ground duels. But his other numbers are quite low.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DM: Thomas Partey &#8211; 68% &#8211; <\/strong>Playing both in midfield and at full-back, Partey has good tackle numbers averaging 1.74 tackles won per 90.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CM: Declan Rice &#8211; 62% &#8211; <\/strong>Rice&#8217;s Score is hurt slightly by the fact that he hasn&#8217;t been influencing games in terms of key metrics as much as other central midfielders.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CM: Martin Odegaard &#8211; 72% &#8211; <\/strong>Odegaard missed a bit of the season due to injury, but has averaged 3.33 successful passes into the penalty area per 90. Arsenal look a better side with him on the pitch.<\/li>\n<li><strong>RW: Bukayo Saka &#8211; 79% &#8211; <\/strong>As mentioned, Saka has been a creative force of nature with 10 assists so far this season, alongside five goals. He&#8217;s averaged 9.44 touches in the opposition box per 90.<\/li>\n<li><strong>LW: Leandro Trossard &#8211; 68% &#8211; <\/strong>Trossard has played both as a winger and a striker for Arsenal this season, finding his spot on the left recently. He&#8217;s scored 0.31 goals per 90 alongside 0.19 intentional assists.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CF: Kai Havertz &#8211; 65% &#8211; <\/strong>Havertz&#8217;s 0.44 goals per 90 and 0.46 non-penalty xG has the German scoring pretty decently. Of course, his scoring has also been hampered by a stint in midfield.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Arteta has tested a few different formations this season, but he always goes back to 4-3-3. Arsenal are most dangerous with their two No.8s protected by a holding No.8. This allows Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard to push forward.<\/p>\n<p>Odegaard plays so high he&#8217;s essentially alongside the striker. But the most-advanced man in the attack is, of course, Bukayo Saka.
