Denmark<\/a> secured passage into the Euro 2024 knockout rounds as Group C runners-up.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

The Danes have a rich history in this tournament, with Euro 2020 the second time they have gone out in the final four, while they famously went all the way as shock winners in 1992 despite not initially even qualifying.<\/p>\n\n

They won’t be among the favourites, but Denmark have more than enough quality in their ranks to trouble even the very best sides at the Euros, but they suffered an opening day hiccup by snatching a point from the jaws of victory against Slovenia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That was followed by consecutive draws against England and Serbia, leaving them with three points, level with Slovenia. However, their better disciplinary record ultimately saw them finish behind in second place.<\/p>\n

A booking for Slovenia coach Milvoje Novakovi\u0107 earlier in the tournament contributed to their eventual total of seven yellow cards to Denmark’s six, which sets the Danes up for a last-16 meeting with hosts Germany, while the Slovenians qualified as one of the four best third-placed teams.<\/p>\n

Novakovi\u0107’s booking did not appear on UEFA’s disciplinary list, with the governing body since confirming to Reuters that yellow cards for technical staff counted toward the disciplinary total.<\/p>\n

Consequently, after two early Danish bookings, Slovenia found themselves in second place at one point during the final matchday.<\/p>\n

However, even without Novakovi\u0107’s punished transgression, Denmark would remain in second place due to its superior qualifying record. Their overall standing was good for ninth place, while Slovenia finished in 15th.<\/p>\n\n
