At the start of the season, you’ll always get odds for Man City to do the Treble and Quadruple, but usually they fall away pretty soon as it’s tough to focus on all four fronts for the entirety of a campaign. Liverpool did manage it last season, winning the EFL Cup and FA Cup but lost the Champions League final and the Premier League on the final day of the campaign – to Man City.<\/p>\n

This season, Man City’s Quadruple dreams were ended in January as they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Southampton but they are still on for the Treble. Just one English men’s team has ever won the treble of the top flight, European Cup and FA Cup, and that was Man City’s neighbours Manchester United in the 1998\/99 season, of course.<\/p>\n

Man City went so close to a first Champions League title in 2020\/21 but they lost to Premier League rivals Chelsea in their maiden final appearance. Last season they looked on course to reach back-to-back finals with a chance to put that Chelsea defeat behind them, as Liverpool did in 2019 by winning the Champions League a year after being a losing finalist.<\/p>\n\n

The Citizens made light of a potentially tricky group last season, finishing top ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig to set up a last 16 tie with Sporting, comfortably beating the Portuguese side 5-0 on aggregate. Things were a lot closer in the quarter-finals as Man City edged a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid to set up a semi with the seemingly invincible Real Madrid.<\/p>\n

Man City had Real Madrid on the ropes in the first leg and will have been disappointed to come away with only a 4-3 lead, and that came back to bite them as Los Blancos<\/em> won the second leg 3-1 after extra-time, which included them scoring two goals in a matter of moments when Man City had looked safe in the final.<\/p>\n

This season, they made light work of the groups, going unbeaten against Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Copenhagen to set up a last-16 date with RB Leipzig. They had few issues dispatching the Germans 8-1 on aggregate before eliminating Bayern Munich comprehensively in the quarters.<\/p>\n

And this time Man City got their revenge on Real Madrid in the semi-finals, absolutely smacking the defending champions 5-1 on aggregate to reach the final for the second time in the club’s history. It was a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, but Man City wasted no time at the Etihad to put Los Blancos<\/em> to the sword with a first-half brace from Bernardo Silva setting them on their way to a 4-0 win.<\/p>\n

Humiliating Real Madrid, there was also a moment to forget for the social media manager of UEFA in the build up to the game. Trying to drum up excitement and participation for a competition to win tickets for the final, the tweet said that the finalists had been confirmed, two hours before the second leg of Man City vs Real Madrid kicked off.<\/p>\n

And to make matters even worse for the account, they had Real Madrid taking on Inter Milan in the final! The tweet was, of course, eventually deleted but the internet never forgets.<\/p>\n
