The <\/strong>2026\/27 Premier League season<\/strong><\/a> is in full flow and already there are a few managers feeling the heat in the Sack Race<\/strong>, including Michael Carrick and Frank Lampard.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were a record-smashing 11 in-season Premier League managerial changes in 2025\/26. Now there’s a growing feeling that it could well be only a matter of time until this season explodes into action, particularly with the international break on the horizon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two current leaders in the market, Manchester United’s Michael Carrick and Tottenham Hotspur’s Roberto de Zerbi, do battle at Old Trafford this Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A defeat for either side will heap serious pressure on the losing side’s owners as both teams’ underperformance in the early stages of the campaign will come under the microscope in Manchester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roberto De Zerbi (Tottenham)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> skipped into the new season with renewed optimism following an influx of new signings, which fuelled hopes that they could challenge towards the top end of the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, that positivity has quickly evaporated after a deflating start. Winless Tottenham are 17th in the table with just two points to their name. The goalless draw at home to Everton was their first in the league at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and meant that they failed to score in the opening four league games for the first time ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priced at 2\/1 in the betting, boss Roberto De Zerbi faces an immediate challenge to get his raft of new recruits settled and performing quickly. If results don’t improve, the pressure on the Spurs boss could build rapidly after the international break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael Carrick (Manchester United)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Michael Carrick is now the second favourit to be the first manager to leave his post after his odds were cut to 5\/2 following Manchester United<\/a>\u2019s winless streak. It started with defeat to Manchester City before the Carabao Cup exit to Brighton. The Red Devils cruised into a 2-0 lead, but ended up losing the game 3-2, to increase the scrutiny on Carrick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And things were made worse with Man Utd needing a late equaliser to steal a point from Fulham. It’s Man Utd’s joint-worst start to a Premier League season after five games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alvaro Arbeloa (Fulham)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Football management can be a strange game. One minute you can be shouting instructions to Kylian Mbappe and co at Real Madrid, and the next you\u2019re taking charge at Fulham<\/a>. That is no slight on the Cottagers, but it shows just how quickly things can change in the dugout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man in question is, of course, Alvaro Arbeloa (4\/1). The Spaniard endured a poor start to his Fulham tenure, losing his first three league games so far. However, he stopped the rot with a goalless draw away to his former side Liverpool, then led Fulham through to the Carabao Cup fourth round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then there was the draw with Man Utd, that Fulham looked so close to winning. Fulham will need to build on those results after the international break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pierre Sage (Crystal Palace)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Pierre Sage, priced at 5\/1, has emerged as another name under the Sack Race spotlight after losing three of his opening five league games in the Crystal Palace<\/a> dugout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are, however, mitigating circumstances. Palace lost key defenders Maxence Lacroix and Daniel Munoz during the summer, while star forward Ismaila Sarr is yet to feature this season, and Jean-Philippe Mateta has been sidelined since the opening game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, supporters will be keen to see signs that Sage is the right man to lead the club in the post-Oliver Glasner era. That is no easy act to follow, of course, but the Eagles\u2019 defence in particular needs significant improvement, having leaked in the second-most goals of any other Premier League side so far this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frank Lampard (Coventry City)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Frank Lampard is back in the Premier League after guiding Coventry City<\/a> to a stunning Championship-winning campaign last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the Sky Blues have struggled to replicate that form on their return to the top-flight, with their first Premier League campaign in 25 years getting off to a nightmare start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coventry became just the fifth club in top-flight history to lose each of their opening four games without scoring<\/a>. They did end that drought in their fifth game, finally getting a goal and a win against Nottingham Forest. There are still questions being asked of Lampard, but other managers are deemed to be in more danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
