In a bout 18 months in the making, Derek Chisora and Joseph Parker will finally face off in Manchester on Saturday May 1.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The two heavyweights were first scheduled to fight in October 2019 at the O2 Arena in London, but Parker had to pull out due to illness as a result of a spider bite. Chisora would instead box David Price on that O2 card, winning via a fourth-round stoppage after his opponent’s team threw in the towel. In the aftermath of that fight, newly crowned WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight champions Chisora called out Parker once again, setting the wheels in motion for this weekend’s fight.<\/p>\n

But Chisora goes into the highly-anticipated battle without a belt, losing his Inter-Continental title to Oleksandr Usyk last October by unanimous decision at Wembley. Parker (who made headlines in 2018 by being the first man to take Anthony Joshua all the way) has been in action more recently than Chisora, ending a year out by beating the previously unbeaten Junior Fa by unanimous decision in February to win the WBO Oriental heavyweight title. It’s believed the winner of this match will go on to get a world title shot at some point in the future, while the loser may miss out on one more opportunity.<\/p>\n

The ring walks for Chisora v Parker are expected from around 10:30pm UK time.<\/p>\n
