This is set to be his 15th outing of the season, and only one referee has awarded more penalties than Bankes&#8217; five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bankes has refereed both of these sides this season. He has officiated two Chelsea matches so far and one for Fulham. Bankes has also been VAR in two Chelsea matches so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fulham go into this game having drawn their past two matches, sitting 11th. It was a pretty uneventful game with just two yellow cards shown to Fulham players. One was for a foul by Kenny Tete, with the second shown to Alex Iwobi for not retreating on a free-kick. And he had some decisions to make. Bankes opted not to penalise Trevoh Chalobah for deliberate handball in the box, as the Chelsea man stopped the ball with his hands &#8212; claiming to be preparing to take a goal kick. Replays showed that Robert Sanchez had passed the ball to Chalobah, potential starting play, but Bankes decided not to have the headache of awarding a penalty. And the decision was backed up by VAR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-should-we-expect-from-peter-bankes\">What should we expect from Peter Bankes?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bankes is among the stricter referees in the Premier League, averaging 4.3 cards per game this season. He also allows just 5.2 fouls per card so far, not letting too much slide &#8212; though he is by no means the harshest referee there. Bankes has shown at least four yellow cards in eight of his 14 Premier League matches so far. His most cards in a single game came in the Tyne-Weir derby between Sunderland and Newcastle United, with nine yellows. His two Chelsea games this season have also seen 13 cards shown.
