He notably disallowed an Eberechi Eze free-kick after a VAR review in the season opener between Chelsea and Crystal Palace, and was on VAR duty during last weekend\u2019s high-drama clash between Arsenal and Newcastle, during which he overturned an Arsenal penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">England\u2019s most recent game as a referee came in the Merseyside derby two weeks ago, where he handed out four yellow cards. Despite this setback, City went on to secure all three points after Haaland stepped up to score an injury-time winner from the spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-summary\">Summary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Darren England has developed a reputation as one of the more card-happy referees in the Premier League.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the start of the 2024\/25 season, he has issued an eye-catching 127 yellow cards across just 31 matches &#8211; an average of 4.1 per game.
