Netherlands and Greece were both drawn into UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying Group B alongside France, Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar. Even though we are heading into the fifth round of fixtures Ronald Koeman’s side have played just two qualifiers, on the count of participating in the UEFA Nations League finals. Oranje<\/em> were blown away by the French, suffering a 4-0 loss at the Stade de France in March, before putting three past Gibraltar with a reply. Koeman’s second spell in charge of the Dutch has fell below expectations with his record in charge reading one win and three losses across four outings.<\/p>\n

Greece, who famously won the 2004 edition, won their opening two games against Gibraltar (3-0) and Republic of Ireland (2-1) before tasting a narrow loss against France on the road. Anastasios Bakasetas and Georgios Masouras have both scored twice in these qualifiers while Nathan Ak\u00e9 is on the same amount for the Netherlands. On five previous visits, the Greeks have tasted one win on Dutch soil and that came in a September 2016 friendly which saw them run out 1-2 winners. Kostas Mitroglou and Giannis Gianniotas scored after Georginio Wijnaldum put the hosts in front.<\/p>\n

Netherlands will have to face Greece without the likes of Steven Bergwijn, Brian Brobbey and Memphis Depay, with the latter having to pull out of the squad due to injury — as did Justin Bijlow. Bergwijn and Brobbey were in the preliminary squad but didn’t make the final cut, nor did Sven Botman.\u00a0 There is also no Georginio Wijnaldum, meaning Cody Gakpo is the highest scorer in the Netherlands squad on six goals.<\/p>\n
