{"id":1312990,"date":"2023-06-13T15:03:07","date_gmt":"2023-06-13T14:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.squawka.com\/en\/?p=1312990"},"modified":"2023-06-13T15:03:07","modified_gmt":"2023-06-13T14:03:07","slug":"kylian-mbappe-statement-psg-staying-no-contract-renewal","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.squawka.com\/en\/news\/kylian-mbappe-statement-psg-staying-no-contract-renewal\/","title":{"rendered":"Kylian Mbappe says he&#8217;s staying at PSG next season \u2014 despite refusal to extend contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kylian Mbappe has been caught up in a transfer storm this week and has now taken to social media to personally set the record straight.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A leaked letter sent to PSG from Mbappe last year surfaced on Monday, in which the French forward declared his intentions not to renew his contract beyond 2024.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the leak, Mbappe released a statement through <em>AFP<\/em><span> on Tuesday reiterating that PSG have known about his desire not to extend his present contract for nearly 12 months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He added<span> that &#8220;the only aim of the letter was to confirm what had already been spoken about previously&#8221;, while saying no renewal talks have ever taken place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The statement <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FabrizioRomano\/status\/1668588078829543424\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read<\/a>: &#8220;I have never discussed any contract renewal with PSG.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The board has been informed since July 15th, 2022 of my decision not to extend beyond 2024 \u2014 and the letter sent was only meant to confirm what I already told them\u201d.<\/p>\n<!-- Shortcode [sky-bet-b5-g20] does not exist -->\n<p>PSG have since responded in this frantic, back-and-forth affair, saying: <span>\u00a0&#8220;It is emphatically untrue to say Mbappe&#8217;s team have not been involved in renewal discussions.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>And in the latest twist to this growing transfer saga, Mbappe has denied claims that he is set to join Real Madrid this summer, describing the rumours as &#8220;lies&#8221; on social media, while also saying , he is &#8220;very happy&#8221; with PSG.<\/p>\n<p>The tweet read: \u201cLies . . . I have already said that I will continue next season at PSG where I am very happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"fr\">MENSONGES\u2026\u274c<br \/>\nEn m\u00eame temps plus c\u2019est gros plus \u00e7a passe.
