Though there were plenty of raised eyebrows over Lampard’s appointment as interim Chelsea manager, the decision to fall back on a boss the club had previously dispensed with could prove key in the future of Mason Mount.<\/p>\n

Mount, who made his Blues debut under Lampard in 2019 and is clearly highly regarded by the returning coach, is getting back to full fitness after sustaining a bruised pelvis earlier in the year. However, his Chelsea contract expires at the end of next season and there is uncertainty over a potential renewal.<\/p>\n

Whether the club choose to cash in on Mount this summer remains to be seen — Liverpool and Bayern Munich are among the reported suitors — but Lampard spelt out the significance of Mount in his first press conference as caretaker manager.<\/p>\n

“The important thing for me will be to talk to him and find out where he\u2019s at but I know what I get from Mason,” Lampard said. “So I just want to see him perform on the pitch and we have a good relationship so we\u2019ll talk a lot. I think he\u2019s a huge player for Chelsea and has been during his time here.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Mount’s return is certainly a boost for Lampard, who will be without Cesar Azpilicueta, Armando Broja and Thiago Silva for Saturday’s trip to Wolves. There are also doubts over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s fitness after he missed the goalless draw with Liverpool in midweek.<\/p>\n
