Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the departure of Antonio Conte after 16 months in charge of the north London club.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The news comes after the Italian went on a extraordinary rant last weekend following his side’s 3-3 draw against Southampton in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Spurs were 3-1 up with 15 minutes to go, but goals from Theo Walcott and a 93rd-minute James Ward-Prowse penalty meant that Conte’s men passed up on the opportunity to move third in the table and consolidate their position in the Champions League places.<\/p>\n

“Tottenham’s story is this – 20 years there is this owner and they never won something. Why?” Conte stated in his post-match press conference. \u201cYou risk to disrupt the figure of the manager and to protect the other situation in every moment.<\/p>\n

“Until now I try to hide the situation but now, no, because I repeat, I don\u2019t want to see what I have seen today because this is unacceptable and also unacceptable for the fans.<\/p>\n

“They follow us, pay for their ticket and to see the team another time, to have this type of performance is unacceptable. We have to think a lot about this.”<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI\u2019m not used to seeing this type of situation. I see a lot of selfish players and I don\u2019t see a team.<\/p>\n\n

“We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, I see players that don\u2019t want to help each other and don\u2019t put their heart [in].”<\/span><\/p>\n

Daniel Levy said in a statement: “We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our club and amazing, loyal supporters.”<\/p>\n

The club have also confirmed that Conte’s former assistant Cristian Stellini will take charge of the club until the end of the season, with Ryan Mason serving as his No. 2.<\/p>\n

Conte’s position felt untenable following the emotional outburst and the seeming inevitable has now transpired, with the Italian coach leaving the club just a season-and-a-half after succeeding Nuno Espirito Santo in November 2021.<\/p>\n

The former Juventus and Chelsea manager was appointed by chairman Daniel Levy following Espirito Santo’s concerning start to the 2021\/22 season. He led them to a fourth-placed finish last term and was handed a transfer war chest in the summer to push the club forward.<\/p>\n\n

Yves Bissouma and Richarlison were the two statement signings, but neither have made the sort of impact to justify their huge transfer fees. Djed Spence also didn’t work out in the first half of the campaign and has been loaned out, while Clement Lenglet and Ivan Perisic have had mixed success.<\/p>\n

Conte’s woes reached a boiling point this month as his side were knocked out of the Champions League by Milan, came up short against Sheffield United in the FA Cup fifth round, and lost to Wolves, as well as dropping points to Southampton to jeopardise their top-four aspirations in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

In November, they also lost to Nottingham Forest in the League Cup, meaning Spurs will once again endure a trophy-less season, and now they have a fight on their hands to bat away threats from Newcastle United and Liverpool in the top-four race.<\/p>\n
