Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes the “catalyst” behind Marcus Rashford\u2019s return to form is hinged on the forward simplifying his game and ‘going back to basics’.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The England international scored twice on Sunday and provided an assist as Man Utd put Arsenal to the sword in a 3-1 Premier League win at Old Trafford, lifting Erik ten Hag’s men to fifth in the table and ending the Gunners’ perfect streak in the process.<\/p>\n

An inauspicious start to the campaign, which saw Brighton and Brentford blow Man Utd out of the water, has been well and truly put to bed after wins over Liverpool and Arsenal at Old Trafford, as well as Southampton and Leicester on the road.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

In that four-match resurgence Rashford has notched goals against Arsenal and Liverpool, while also providing the decisive assist to set up Jadon Sancho in their 1-0 win at the King Power against Leicester. It has been quite the purple patch for Rashford.<\/p>\n

He was once again in top form on Sunday as Ten Hag recorded an exceptional win over the travelling Londoners, and Ferdinand has now looked to dissect the key factor behind his recent form, believing the academy star has simply “gone back to basics” — and he even likened his playing style to that of a former team-mate.<\/p>\n

Speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE<\/em><\/a> YouTube channel, he said: \u201cThe catalyst for that [his renewed confidence and form] is going back to basics. And that\u2019s what we\u2019ve been asking for. He\u2019s gone back to basics. He\u2019s chasing balls into the goalkeeper, chasing lost causes.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThings like that remind me of Carlos Tevez. He was the player who got the fans off their seat for things like that. He got the crowd going and generated an atmosphere, and made the opposition players think \u2018right we\u2019ve got to go as well\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he can keep that in his game, then the other elements that he has, the quality, the ability to run in behind teams and then score or set up his team-mates, they then come.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut you have to do the hard stuff first. The stuff that you may feel you aren\u2019t getting rewarded for first. But the reward will come later.\u201d<\/p>\n
