New Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho has admitted he was not happy with the first nickname his Reds teammates gave him after joining the club this summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Liverpool had been looking to sign Carvalho in the January transfer window before the deal fell through but they eventually got their man, confirming his move just after the 2021\/22 Premier League campaign had ended.<\/p>\n

With Carvalho’s contract at Fulham up this summer, Liverpool were able to scoop the youngster on a five-year deal, only paying \u00a35m plus \u00a32.7m in add-ons. The teenager played a key role in getting Fulham to the Premier League, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists in 36 Championship matches.<\/p>\n

Carvalho made his Liverpool debut in the Community Shield, coming on for the final minute of the match, picking up a winner’s medal after the Reds beat Premier League champions Manchester City.<\/p>\n

The Portuguese under-21 international has since come off the bench in both of Liverpool’s Premier League matches so far, including a 12-minute showing against his former club Fulham on the opening weekend.<\/p>\n

While some fans may be unhappy with how little Carvalho is being used by Liverpool in what will be a crucial time in his development, the 19-year-old himself appears to be loving life at Anfield.<\/p>\n

But he wasn’t a fan of being called Bruno Mars by his new teammates.<\/p>\n

“We had a few days where we went for food at the restaurant and then there was the initiation with the songs for the new lads which brought us closer, especially for me as I had to sing and so the lads were just laughing and joking,” he told the club’s official website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Things like that just bring the group together, even the young players who came with us as well. It just brings everyone closer.<\/p>\n

“When I first came my nickname from the lads was Bruno Mars, which I’ve now said no to! So to stick to that little joke, though, I sang Bruno Mars’ The Lazy Song. It was alright!”<\/p>\n

It hasn’t been the best start to the new season for Liverpool aside from their Community Shield victory. The Reds are yet to win in the Premier League, drawing with Fulham and then Crystal Palace, having to come from behind to earn a point in both matches.<\/p>\n

Next up for the Reds is a trip to Old Trafford to face bitter rivals Manchester United who have had a much worse start to the season, currently sitting bottom of the table after two defeats.<\/p>\n
