Manchester United have announced that Ralf Rangnick will not take up consultancy role at the club this summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 63-year-old German coach has been in charge of the first-team on an interim basis since the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last November.<\/p>\n

He was expected to step down at the end of the season and take up an advisory role behind the scenes, but the club have now announced that such plans have been scrapped.<\/p>\n

Instead, Rangnick will be giving his sole focus to the Austria national job, a position he took up last month, though he confirmed in a statement that he “<\/a>will continue my consultancy with Manchester United”<\/a>. That is now no longer the case.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

A Man Utd statement read: “By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Rangnick will now swiftly change his focus to Austria’s upcoming Nations League matches in Group A1 against Croatia, Denmark and France, starting with an away trip to Osijek on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Despite his glowing reputation in Germany, Rangnick’s temporary stint at Old Trafford will be largely considered a failure, with that feeling of disappointment now augmented by the latest announcement that he won’t continue on upstairs.<\/p>\n

    The Red Devils only won 38% of their games under Rangnick, while he also managed to ensure the club finished with their lowest points total in Premier League history as they scraped into the Europa League after a sixth-placed finish.
