Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger says he “was not surprised” by Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing at Old Trafford in the Premier League.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Red Devils endured their heaviest ever home defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, capitulating in front of a capacity crowd as Jurgen Klopp’s men ran riot, with Mohamed Salah stealing the headlines after helping himself to the match ball.<\/p>\n

The Merseysiders were two to the good after just 13 minutes, and 4-0 up by the interval, with the decibel levels rising as Anthony Taylor blew his whistle for half time as a chorus of boos echoed across the ground. Salah completed the rout — and his hat-trick — just after the restart.<\/p>\n

Naby Keita initially broke the deadlock five minutes into the contest, before Diogo Jota — selected ahead of Sadio Mane — doubled Liverpool’s advantage eight minutes later. Salah then bagged a brace before the break, and became the first Premier League player to score a hat-trick at Old Trafford in the 50th minute.<\/p>\n

Paul Pogba compiled the misery by collecting a red card 20 minutes after his introduction, completing a miserable afternoon for the hosts, and seriously amping up the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose position is looking slightly untenable following that sobering loss.<\/p>\n

Following the game, pundits, former players, fans and analysts alike were all quick to digest and pick over the bones from one of football’s most remarkable contests, with Schweinsteiger among those to give his two cents on the current state of this Man Utd side.<\/p>\n\n

The former Man Utd man hinted that the club lack ‘philosophy and vision’, as he praised the current set-up of Liverpool, tweeting<\/a>:\u00a0“A devastating day for all of Manchester United, supporters and the club, but it didn\u2019t come out of nowhere. It was not a surprise.<\/p>\n

“Liverpool showed them the difference, which is huge — having a philosophy and vision. Congrats, Liverpool.<\/p>\n
