Former Manchester City winger Trevor Sinclair believes Pep Guardiola would be better off signing Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham over Harry Kane this summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Premier League title holders have been strongly linked with a nine-figure move for the Tottenham and England star, who cast doubt on his future just before Euro 2020 in a now-iconic interview with Gary Neville, in which he told the former right-back he wants to be playing Champions League football<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having finished seventh in the Premier League last season, Spurs will partake in the inaugural Europa Conference League for 2021\/22, with recently-appointed Nuno Espirito Santo preparing his charges for a play-off match in early August to make the group stages.<\/p>\n\n

The new boss will be determined to keep hold of the club’s best footballers, but an approach from City may be hard to turn down for a player supposedly itching for a move, though former England international Sinclair believes Guardiola should be focusing his attention slightly west of the M25.<\/p>\n

Abraham, 23, has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea following the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, and Sinclair thinks his former club should move for the Stamford Bridge outcast rather than paying a king’s ransom to bring Kane to the Etihad.<\/p>\n

Asked by ex-Tottenham midfielder Jamie O\u2019Hara if he would take Abraham over Kane at City, Sinclair told\u00a0<\/span>talkSPORT<\/em><\/a>: “I would, yeah.<\/p>\n

“He\u2019s a young enough player and with Pep Guardiola\u2019s coaching ability and the teammates around him\u2026 he\u2019s a top player.<\/p>\n

“The season he had at Aston Villa and then he went back to Chelsea and did very well. He\u2019s a handful, his pace, he looks to stretch the lines, he\u2019s a finisher.<\/p>\n

“No player\u2019s perfect, especially at 22 or 23, but there\u2019s a lot of growth there with Tammy.<\/p>\n

“He\u2019d be someone I\u2019d be very interested to see at Manchester City.”<\/p>\n

“It just goes against my principles”<\/h2>\n

There is no question Kane’s signature would cost City an exorbitant transfer fee, particularly as Spurs would be selling to a Premier League rival, but Sinclair thinks the reported \u00a3160m currently being bandied about would distort the market, saying “you might as well pack up” if a deal of that magnitude transpires.<\/p>\n

On that reported \u00a3160m bid, Sinclair continued: “It just goes against my principles of what I think about the club. Honestly, it really does.<\/p>\n

“I just don\u2019t want to see the club going out there and spending that ridiculous amount of money to bring one player in.<\/p>\n
