Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills says he is “surprised” Ben White has decided to join Arsenal and not a club like Manchester United.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Gunners recently agreed a \u00a350m deal<\/a> to sign the England international from Brighton after having offers of \u00a340m and \u00a347m rebuffed from the South Coast club.<\/p>\n

Mikel Arteta has wasted little time in bolstering his squad ahead of the 2021\/22 season after his side finished eighth last term and missed out on European competition, with the Spaniard recruiting Nuno Tavares for \u00a36.8m from Benfica and Albert Sambi Lokonga for <\/span>\u00a317.2m from Anderlecht.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

White, 23, was the subject of interest last year from Leeds United after a fruitful loan spell in the Championship, in which he helped Marcelo Bielsa’s side gain promotion to the Premier League, but subsequent enquiries were spurned by Graham Potters’ side, and he enjoyed a highly-succesful stint at the Amex in 2020\/21.<\/p>\n

His form culminated in receiving his first England cap by Gareth Southgate last month, while he was also named in his 26-man squad for Euro 2020 as a replacement for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold, though he ultimately failed to make the turf as the nation reached the final.<\/p>\n

With his arrival in north London now looking imminent, former England international Mills has questioned his decision to join the capital side, believing the versatile defender would have a better chance of winning silverware at a club like Man Utd.<\/p>\n

Mills told\u00a0<\/span>talkSPORT<\/span><\/em>: “The only thing I am surprised at is Ben White has gone to Arsenal.<\/p>\n

“Let\u2019s assume that he will be at Arsenal for two or three years at least before he goes somewhere else.<\/p>\n

“I just think he is better than that.”<\/p>\n

When quizzed on why White should join another club, Mills replied: “Because he has got a better chance of winning things. What is he going to win at Arsenal?<\/p>\n
