Five things to know&#8230;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Raul emerged from the Real academy in 1994 and went on to make over 700 appearances for the club.<\/li>\n<li>He is currently the club&#8217;s record appearance maker and has scored the second-most goals, behind\u00a0Cristiano Ronaldo.<\/li>\n<li>The Spaniard recently\u00a0completed his UEFA coaching badges and took charge of Real&#8217;s Castilla team in June.<\/li>\n<li>He has previously coached the club\u2019s Cadete B and Juvenil B sides.<\/li>\n<li>Former teammate Hierro has now back him to go on and manage the Real first-team one day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"background-color: transparent; display: block; padding: 0; max-width: 700px;\" title=\"Audioboom player\" src=\"https:\/\/embeds.audioboom.com\/posts\/7405357\/embed\/v4\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Since hanging up his boots in 2015 Raul has turned to the dugout, recently following in the path of so many ex-Real players by taking charge of the club&#8217;s Castilla\u00a0team.<\/p>\n<p>The former Spain international was recently promoted from Real Madrid&#8217;s U15 side to the reserve team in the summer, and Hierro &#8211; who made over 400 appearances for Real himself &#8211; has backed his ex-colleague to make the next step up soon.<\/p>\n<p>Zidane famously started out as coach of\u00a0Real Madrid Castilla before going on to manage the first-team, as did Santiago Solari, and Hierro believes Raul is next in line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRaul\u00a0has everything you need to become\u00a0Real Madrid coach,\u201d Hierro insisted, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marca.com\/radio\/2019\/10\/29\/5db867bb46163f35198b4585.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Radio Marca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had all been told &#8211; when we were players &#8211; about a kid who was scoring for fun in the underage groups\u2026that he was different.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a boy who had his eyes wide open, who had plenty of enthusiasm and a level of drive and ambition that was much higher than usual.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all understood what he represented and what he would become.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Know Your Squad: \u2018Xhaka?!\u2019 Arsenal fans quizzed w\/Sophie Rose\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bsij4XsIbDk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Subscribe to <a href=\"http:\/\/sqwk.at\/Squawka-Sub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Squawka\u2019s Youtube channel here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Zidane also backs Raul<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Current Real manager and another ex-colleague of Raul, Zidane, also gave a ringing endorsement of the Madridista&#8217;s credentials.<\/p>\n<p>Zidane played alongside Raul for five years between 2001 and 2006, and he insists he saw enough to know that he has the resilience and know-how to one day take the Real hot seat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I played alongside him and he was an important player for this great club,&#8221; Zidane said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m sure he&#8217;ll coach Real Madrid one day.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fernando Hierro believes former Real Madrid teammate Raul has all the tools to follow in\u00a0Zinedine Zidane&#8217;s footsteps and one day take the Bernabeu reins.
