Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier has taken aim at former club Tottenham Hotspur for not showing any desire to keep him in north London.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The England international completed a \u00a320m move to the\u00a0Wanda Metropolitano earlier this summer and has since rediscovered his form in La Liga.<\/p>\n

    The buccaneering right-back had a difficult campaign in 2018\/19, leading to a large amount of criticism from some sections of the match-going Lilywhite fanbase, which he has since addressed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    However, having relocated to the Spanish capital, the Bury-born defender is finding his feet once again, with his early performances yielding an inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers ahead of Kyle Walker.<\/p>\n

    The 28-year-old has now detailed why he left Spurs in the summer, explaining how neither chairman Daniel Levy or\u00a0Mauricio Pochettino expressed a desire to retain his services.<\/p>\n

    In an interview with The Times<\/a>, Trippier said: “I didn\u2019t fall out of love with the game. It\u2019s just you know when you\u2019re not playing well, and you\u2019re trying to get yourself out of it, it\u2019s emotionally draining.<\/p>\n

    “Sometimes I was thinking, ‘God, I just wish the season was over’.”<\/p>\n

    \u201cI heard rumours about them selling me and it\u2019s not nice. That was playing on my mind for a few months. I tried to block it out.<\/p>\n

    “I\u00a0decided to pull the manager in pre-season to see what\u2019s going on. I spoke to him about his plans and I didn\u2019t get a \u2018yes\u2019 and I didn\u2019t get a \u2018no\u2019.<\/p>\n

    “I tried to speak to the chairman. I just didn\u2019t really get an answer,\u201d he said. \u201cI didn\u2019t get the impression that they wanted to keep me.”<\/p>\n
