Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been criticised by Tony Cascarino\u00a0for not following\u00a0Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United blueprint and signing a striker over the summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Red Devils have already seen\u00a0Romelu Lukaku leave for Inter Milan over the summer and now look set to lose Alexis Sanchez to the San Siro giants as well.<\/p>\n

  • Historically, Sir Alex Ferguson always possessed a clinical goalscorer in his squad.<\/li>\n
  • During his early years he had\u00a0Brian McClair and\u00a0Mark Hughes.<\/li>\n
  • The start of Premier League era then saw Eric Cantona,\u00a0Andy Cole and\u00a0Solskjaer himself.<\/li>\n
  • More recently the likes of\u00a0Carlos Tevez, Dimitar Berbatov and Robin van Persie have thrived.<\/li>\n
  • And\u00a0Cascarino believes a failure to sign a striker of real goalscoring pedigree could prove costly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    That leaves Solskjaer with just two recognised strikers in\u00a0Marcus Rashford and\u00a0Anthony Martial, both of whom\u00a0Cascarino believes are not capable of notching 20 goals a season.<\/p>\n

    The former Chelsea forward pointed to United’s rich lineage of formidable marksmen as reason for Solskjaer’s naivety, name-checking the likes of\u00a0Andy Cole,\u00a0Ruud Van Nistelrooy and\u00a0Wayne Rooney.<\/p>\n

    He believes a failure to emulate\u00a0Ferguson’s approach of always possessing a prolific No. 9 on the books could prove costly.<\/p>\n

    In his column for The Times<\/a>, Cascarino wrote: “Given they have allowed Romelu Lukaku to leave too I find it amazing United didn\u2019t sign a proper centre forward during the transfer window.<\/p>\n
