Five things to know&#8230;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Newcastle fans have been unhappy with owner Mike Ashley for years.<\/li>\n<li>Ashley has often failed to put enough money into the club to allow them to progress.<\/li>\n<li>There had been some minor light with Rafael Benitez in charge.<\/li>\n<li>But the Spaniard decided against signing a new contract in the summer as the club did not share his vision.<\/li>\n<li>Benitez was replaced by Steve Bruce, while Ashley remains unable to sell the club.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"background-color: transparent; display: block; padding: 0; max-width: 700px;\" title=\"Audioboom player\" src=\"https:\/\/audioboom.com\/posts\/7330203-it-s-easy-to-get-backwards-but-liverpool-s-dependence-on-their-front-three-isn-t-a-weakness\/embed\/v4\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This summer has seen Newcastle lose manager Rafael Benitez and last season&#8217;s star players Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon, with the latter following his boss to Chinese club Dalian Yifang.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after his departure, Benitez revealed his decision not to sign a new contract with Newcastle was due to those at the top not sharing his vision for the club.<\/p>\n<p>Benitez was replaced by Steve Bruce, a decision which only added to Newcastle fans&#8217; already-high disliking of owner Mike Ashley.<\/p>\n<p>But Ritchie, who created more chances than any other Newcastle player in the Premier League last season (60), believes fans must be a bit more realistic with their aims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t understand the unrest, I\u2019ve got to be honest,&#8221; he told <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/football\/583401\/newcastle-united-exclusive-matt-ritchie-mike-ashley-fans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">talkSPORT<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe club has gone out and spent money, we\u2019re pushing and trying to compete with the teams we can compete with and you have to be real \u2013 to compete at the top of the Premier League now is mega, mega money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe owner has been honest in interviews in the press and has said he can\u2019t go and compete with them. He\u2019s been up front about that and to do that he\u2019d have to sell the club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After breaking their transfer record for the first time in 15 years in January with Miguel Almiron, Newcastle did not wait too long to do it again. Joelinton, who joined for a reported \u00a340m is one of five new signings at St James&#8217; Park this summer, following Kyle Scott, Jake Turner, Jetro Willems and Allan Saint-Maximin.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How will Jurgen Klopp setup Liverpool?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BkH1a6Bd4KE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Subscribe to <a href=\"http:\/\/sqwk.at\/Squawka-Sub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Squawka\u2019s Youtube channel here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Ritchie pleads for fans to get behind Newcastle<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Despite the expectancy that Newcastle fans will boycott Sunday&#8217;s home game against Arsenal in their droves, Ritchie has pleaded with the Toon Army to back the team this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, we all have to be in this together,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been unrest ever since I arrived at the club and the main thing I took from Bournemouth, and I know it\u2019s a smaller club, but everyone was pulling in the same direction, with the same philosophy and mentality and desire to help one another.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what we need to be here; the fans, the staff and the players all as one and pulling in the same direction. That\u2019s something I\u2019m really passionate about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel if we\u2019re all this in this together we can be a lot stronger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to fans to support the team and be with us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast season we played Manchester United at home and I got a bit of stick after the game because I said the atmosphere wasn\u2019t great, but I don\u2019t retract what I said, because it was how I felt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously performances on the pitch change how the fans see it, and it\u2019s down to us players to make the atmosphere good, but from the word go on Sunday we need everyone together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe atmosphere at St James\u2019 can be fantastic, but it needs to be positive.
