{"id":1100344,"date":"2019-08-07T13:14:08","date_gmt":"2019-08-07T12:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.squawka.com\/en\/?p=1100344"},"modified":"2019-08-07T13:14:08","modified_gmt":"2019-08-07T12:14:08","slug":"jan-vertonghen-unsure-spurs-future","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.squawka.com\/en\/news\/jan-vertonghen-unsure-spurs-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Jan Vertonghen unsure over long-term Spurs future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has admitted he is still unsure about whether or not he will remain at the club beyond this season.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Belgium international has been one of Spurs&#8217; most important players since joining from Ajax in 2012, helping them reach a first-ever Champions League final last season.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Vertonghen&#8217;s Spurs future: Five key things to know&#8230;<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Vertonghen joined Spurs from Ajax in 2012.<\/li>\n<li>Since then, he&#8217;s played 285 times for the club in all competitions.<\/li>\n<li>But the 32-year-old has entered the final year of his contract.<\/li>\n<li>He admitted he&#8217;s unsure what will happen beyond this season.<\/li>\n<li>But he insisted he&#8217;s happy at Spurs and also called on Toby Alderweireld to stay at the club.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>https:\/\/audioboom.com\/posts\/7330203-it-s-easy-to-get-backwards-but-liverpool-s-dependence-on-their-front-three-isn-t-a-weakness<\/p>\n<p>However, he is now entering the final year of his contract with the club and although Vertonghen feels in great physical shape, he will turn 33 before the end of the 2019\/20 season and there are doubts about his future beyond then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want to focus on this year,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/sport\/football\/tottenham\/jan-vertonghen-unsure-over-tottenham-future-as-he-nears-end-of-contract-a4205446.html\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cI know I have got one year left so I know a lot of questions will be asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have said it before, I am very happy at the club. The supporters have been great for me, the manager has improved me a lot and has a lot of confidence in me.
