AC Milan and Inter Milan have confirmed plans to demolish their iconic San Siro Stadium and replace it with a brand new venue.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Rossoneri\u00a0president Paolo Scaroni, the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium \u2013 more commonly referred to as the San Siro \u2013 will be knocked down, and a state of the art venue will be built in its place.<\/p>\n

    The famous ground has played host to four\u00a0European Cup and Champions League finals, but has been in need of serious\u00a0renovation across the past few years, though both Milan clubs have now opted for an entirely new project.<\/p>\n

    “Everything is proceeding,” Scaroni told La Gazzetta dello Sport<\/a>.\u00a0“We will build a new San Siro next to the old one on the same area of land.<\/p>\n

    “The old one will be knocked down and, in its place, there will be new constructions.”<\/p>\n

    The Milan president confirmed the plans in\u00a0Lausanne, where the\u00a0Olympic Committee will decide the hosts\u00a0for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games on Monday, and he revealed his desire to see the new stadium hold the opening ceremony should Milan be selected as one of the host cities.<\/p>\n

    He added: “It’s an extremely complicated process. It would be beautiful to have the Olympics’ opening ceremony in the new San Siro, but we are not certain.”<\/p>\n
