Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has taken the blame for the hamstring injury that has potentially ended N’Golo Kante’s season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The French midfielder limped off after 10 minutes of Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Watford on Sunday and, with the Blues currently level at 1-1 in their Europa League semi-final with Eintracht Frankfurt, the injury could force Kante to miss the campaign’s climax.<\/p>\n

    The win over Watford was the first time in seven attempts that Chelsea had won a game after a European fixture, with their continental exertions clearly taking a toll on Sarri’s squad.<\/p>\n

    And the Italian admitted he should have rested Kante following their Europa League fixture in Germany last Thursday.<\/p>\n

    “He has a problem with his hamstring, but I think I made a mistake, he should have rested today,” he said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    “Sometimes it’s difficult to put someone on the bench so important like Eden Hazard or Kante – it’s a risk.<\/p>\n

    “We will wait for the morning, it’s very difficult to recover for the next two matches. We have to recover him for the final.”<\/p>\n

    Sarri responds to Cahill criticism<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Departing club captain Gary Cahill made what appeared to be his final Stamford Bridge appearance on Sunday, coming from the bench for the final few minutes against Watford.<\/p>\n

    Just a few days prior, the England international gave an interview with the Telegraph<\/a> in which he stated he found it ‘hard to respect’ Sarri after being restricted to a fringe role this season.<\/p>\n

    But Sarri has responded positively to the controversial interview, claiming he was unaware of the interview and praising Cahill’s professionalism.<\/p>\n

    “I don’t know the situation, I’m sorry,” Sarri said<\/a> when asked if he was aware of Cahill’s interview.<\/p>\n

    “It’s not important for me. Cahill, during the season, was really very professional. He played only five, six or seven matches, but he was really very important in the training ground, in the dressing room.<\/p>\n

    “Today was his last match for Chelsea, so it was important for him to be on the pitch, only for a few minutes but I still think it was really very important for the fans and for him.<\/p>\n

    “Here, Gary won everything. And so I think he had to say goodbye to the stadium, to the fans, to the club.”<\/p>\n
