Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has admitted he felt like crying every day at last summer’s World Cup because of the injury he picked up in the 2018 Champions League final.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Egyptian was rushed back to fitness so that he could join his international teammates in Russia.<\/p>\n

  2. Mohamed Salah was involved in a collision with Madrid defender Sergio Ramos which resulted in a dislocated shoulder.<\/li>\n
  3. The Egyptian managed to return to action at the World Cup, scoring two goals for his country.<\/li>\n
  4. However, he was off the pace and Egypt were knocked out of the competition in the group stages.<\/li>\n

    Speaking to reporters regarding last season’s heartbreak, Salah couldn’t hide his frustration at what could have been for both club and country.<\/p>\n

    His injury in the final took away Liverpool’s best goal-scoring outlet while also severely denting Egypt’s chance of success in Russia. Salah admitted that the situation was very bad and as a result, felt like crying every night in his hotel room at the World Cup.<\/p>\n

    “When I think about it, it was very, very bad,” he said.<\/p>\n

    “Final of the Champions League, big dream for yourself and the city, for the fans, for everyone. We wanted to win the Champions League. That time was mentally very, very bad.<\/p>\n

    “Especially when I got substituted;\u00a0I went to the dressing room and was just crying – I felt the Champions League was over and the World Cup was over. It was very tough for me in that moment.<\/p>\n

    “I think it still hurts until now because you didn’t win it, you feel like you were close to winning the Champions League and you didn’t win it.<\/p>\n

    “I wanted to play the World Cup, it’s a dream, but I’m not fit. I got to my room, I was almost crying every day.<\/p>\n

    “Before the first game [against\u00a0Uruguay] I didn’t play, I was crying on the bus, I was crying in the bathroom because I wanted to start, I wanted to play.<\/p>\n

    “In the meantime, I know I’m not fit at all to play. In one moment it disappeared, it’s so difficult.”<\/p>\n

    Not too late for Salah and co.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Salah could rid himself of last season’s demons by helping Liverpool end their campaign in one of the most euphoric ways possible.<\/p>\n

    The Reds are still in contention to win both the Premier League title – their first league title in 29 years – and the Champions League, a competition they haven’t won since their famous night in Istanbul in 2005.<\/p>\n

    However, both competitions yield strong enemies standing in their way, with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City strong favourites to win the Premier League with two games remaining.<\/p>\n

    They would need to drop points while Liverpool win their last two games to ensure Klopp’s side taste domestic glory this time around.<\/p>\n

    In Europe, they are two games away from their second successive Champions League final, where they would face either fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur or Dutch destroyers Ajax in the final in June.<\/p>\n
