Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes his former side may have denied Liverpool their first Premier League title.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Reds are in hot pursuit of title-rivals Manchester City and currently sitting second on 91 points, one point behind the Citizens with two games left to play.<\/p>\n

Jurgen Klopp’s men can return to the top of the table with a win over Newcastle United on Saturday evening, with Man City not playing until Monday even against Leicester. Liverpool and Man City then end the season against Wolves and Brighton respectively.<\/p>\n

But ex-England international believes that United have already ended the Merseyside club’s chances of pipping Pep Guardiola’s side to the title after their goalless draw at Old Trafford in February.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat these two teams have done, right through the season, has been sensational,\u201d Scholes told<\/a>\u00a0Premier League Productions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t feel sorry for either of them\u2026 But you\u2019ve got to admire what they\u2019ve done.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you look back, Liverpool\u2019s biggest mistake was not beating Manchester United at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you see how many players United were missing\u2026 they then had three injuries. Lingard came on and had to go off.<\/p>\n

\u201cLiverpool were really poor that day and you saw the difference the other night when City came to Old Trafford and were dominant and looked a really top team.<\/p>\n

Although his claim for United spoiling Liverpool’s title-chances may be a little optimistic, Scholes certainly knows what it takes for a side to win the Premier League, making 499 league appearances for the Red Devils across a career which was dominated by every title and honour there is.<\/p>\n

The midfielder scored 107 league goals to help United secure a supreme 11 league titles, the first coming in 1996 and the last in 2013.\u00a0Scholes won 64.32% of his Premier League matches, generated 55 assists and was voted into the PFA Team of the Season on two occasions.<\/p>\n
