Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes his side will go into the final day of the Premier League season on top of the league table.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The defending champions currently lead closest rivals Liverpool by a solitary point, with just two games remaining in what is one of the closest title races in Premier League history.<\/p>\n

  2. Guardiola’s side have won their past 12 league games to keep ahead of Liverpool, who are searching for their first league title since 1990.<\/li>\n
  3. City face Leicester (h) and Brighton (a) in their final two league games of the season.<\/li>\n
  4. Guardiola is confident his side will get three points against Leicester, setting them up for a second consecutive title win.<\/li>\n

    Liverpool will have the chance to return to the top of the table when they face Newcastle on Saturday evening, two days before Manchester City face Leicester City.<\/p>\n

    But Guardiola is confident his team will prevail against the Foxes, thus going into the final game of the season top of the table.<\/p>\n

    Speaking after Man City’s win over Burnley, the Spaniard told Sky Sports<\/a>: “In the second half we had another level, and created three, four or five chances which isn’t easy against them – but we did it.<\/p>\n

    “There was a penalty not given, and we had other clear chances. We could have won by more but I’m so happy with the win.<\/p>\n

    “And now it’s two games left, we need to be calm until next Monday, and against Leicester we are going to get three more points to go to Brighton to win the league.”<\/p>\n

    Should Man City win both their remaining games, they will be the first team to retain the Premier League title since Manchester United in 2008\/09.<\/p>\n

    It would also see City finish on 98 points, the second-highest ever tally after their own record-breaking 100 points achieved last season.<\/p>\n

    Though Manchester City could still end the season with a domestic treble, having already wrapped up the League Cup and reached the FA Cup final, Guardiola’s men have had some disappointment too.<\/p>\n

    The Citizens were knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by fellow Premier League side Tottenham following a dramatic 4-4 draw across two legs which included a late goal ruled out by VAR.<\/p>\n
