Tottenham have today released a new injury update on Harry Kane and Dele Alli, who suffered injuries during the north London club’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A club statement reveals Kane “sustained considerable\u00a0lateral ligament injury to his left ankle” while confirming\u00a0Dele Alli fractured his left hand \u2013 the midfielder left the pitch clutching his left wrist in the same game.<\/p>\n

Kane tangled with England teammate Fabian Delph during the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash and winced in pain after receiving a blow to his left ankle.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old immediately hobbled down the tunnel with the assistance of two members of Tottenham medical team, sparking fears among the Spurs fanbase that he would face a significant spell on the sidelines.<\/p>\n

Mauricio Pochettino subsequently hinted that he was worried Kane will be unable to play again this season and Spurs have now confirmed that the injury is indeed a serious one.<\/p>\n

The statement read<\/a>: “Following assessment over the past two days, we can confirm that Harry Kane has sustained a significant lateral ligament injury to his left ankle following a challenge in our Champions League quarter-final, first leg win against Manchester City.<\/p>\n

“Investigations are ongoing and he will continue to be assessed by our medical staff over the coming week.<\/p>\n

“We can also confirm that examinations have revealed that Dele Alli fractured his left hand during Tuesday’s fixture.<\/p>\n

“The England midfielder will now be assessed to determine his availability for this weekend’s fixture against Huddersfield Town.”<\/p>\n

The statement suggests Alli is likely to be available for Tottenham’s run-in, but it sounds like Kane will be out for significantly longer.<\/p>\n

Kane’s absence could have huge ramifications for Spurs’ season. The club is locked in a battle for a top-four finish and can scarcely afford any further slip ups during their final six Premier League fixtures.<\/p>\n

Pochettino’s men also travel to the Etihad Stadium for the second leg of their Champions League tie on April 17 and it looks doubtful that Kane will be able to play any part.<\/p>\n

Can Spurs cope without Kane?<\/h2>\n

Kane suffered a similar injury earlier in the season when he damaged ankle ligaments during his side’s 1-0 Premier League home defeat by Manchester United in January.<\/p>\n

That problem kept him on the sidelines for almost two months, while he missed a month of last season due to a problem with his right ankle and also spent a total of 10 weeks out during the 2016\/17 campaign.<\/p>\n

Players such as Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen have previously carried the goalscoring burden during Kane’s string of absences and will need to step up again.<\/p>\n

Pochettino undoubtedly possesses other capable goalscorers in his squad but it is clear that not being able to call on Kane during the run-in equates to a huge blow, with Fernando Llorente the Argentine manager’s only other option at centre forward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
