Can Lee Carsley lead the Young Lions to victory? Check here for tips, picks and betting offers.

We’re all set for the 27th edition of the U21 European Championships this summer as 16 teams from across the continent head to Romania and Georgia in a bid to lift the trophy and also to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Group A will see co-hosts Georgia take on three very talented sides in the shape of Belgium, Portugal and the Netherlands. Esperanças will be hoping to go one better than they managed in Hungary and Slovenia last time out when they finished runners-up, losing 1-0 to Germany in Ljubljana.

Georgia’s co-hosts Romania sit in Group B alongside Spain, Ukraine and Croatia. With the likes of Braga’s Abel Ruiz and Manchester City’s Sergio Gomez in their side, la Rojita will be expected to ease through to the knock-out stages.

England take their place in Group C, where they will face a tough challenge in the shape of reigning champions Germany. Those two sides are favourites to progress from a group that also contains Israel and Czech Republic, with games taking place in Kutaisi and Batumi.

Finally, Group D will pit together Norway, Switzerland, France and Italy. Les Bleuets unsurprisingly boast one of the most talented teams in the competition and could hand a starting spot to Crystal Palace star Michael Olise.

When do you release U21 Euros tips?

We look to publish our U21 European Championship betting tips and predictions approximately 48 hours prior to kick-off in each fixture, allowing you time to check our tips, weigh up your options and place your bets. Time periods can change depending on fixture congestion, particularly in the packed schedule of the group stages. However, you can still count on us to give you our well-researched

Once the competition gets underway, there will be a whole host of different betting offer guides, match previews and plenty more around the site. So, keep your eyes peeled for a special Squawka slant on your betting content during the tournament over in Romania and Georgia.

Today’s U21 Euro 2023 tips

Not only do we add a tips box for every game which you will find above ahead of each round of fixtures, but we also produce special betting previews on some of the most important fixtures of the tournament.

Our betting previews include our tips, of course, but they also include the odds from a host of different bookmakers, our key stats ahead of the fixture, the predictions of our expert writers and a look back at previous meetings between the two nations.

U21 Euros in-play betting tips

One very popular way of betting on football currently is In Play betting. Once you’ve settled down to watch the action, you may think you see the game developing in a certain way. Perhaps the underdogs are playing well and looking like they’ll upset the odds? Or maybe a certain striker has been managed to find space in and around the opponents’ box?

With In Play betting, you’ll be able to place bets even after the action has kicked off, something that wasn’t always possible in previous years. Simply head to the In Play or ‘LIVE’ section of your chosen bookmaker’s sportsbook and you’ll see which games are currently being played, including those at this summer’s U21 European Championships.

Similarly, most bookmakers will now offer a cash out functionality on your bets, so you can decide to take a portion of your winnings before the full-time whistle should you see the momentum of the game shifting before your eyes. These live functionalities have changed the way that fans bet on the game and

Full-time results

The bread and butter of any sportsbook is to offer a full-time result bet. This is as simple as it sounds – you’re betting on either team to win (or the draw) in 90 minutes.

With the Under 21 European Championships, it’s important to study the form of both sides and remember – the youth sides of certain nations may be more talented than the first team, so misjudge underdogs at your peril.

There are other result bets too, including first and second half result bets and many sportsbooks now offer markets such as ‘To Lead At Any Time’ where you can bet on a team simply to take the lead during the match regardless of the full-time scoreline.

Both teams to score

For a both teams to score bet you need – you guessed it – both teams to score within 90 minutes.

This bet has proven to be among the most popular with football punters in recent years largely due to the fact that it cannot lose before the 90 minutes. Even if you’re going into injury time with one of the teams not having scored, as the famous saying goes, it only takes a second to score a goal!

Over 2.5 goals

Similar in many ways to the Both Teams To Score market, in an over 2.5 goals bet you’re betting on the amount of goals to be scored within a game. The difference? It doesn’t matter which team scores the goals, as long as it’s over the stated amount come full-time.

Of course, you can also bet on Under 2.5 goals if you’re expecting a lower-scoring game, or you can change the parameters to bet on Under or Over 1.5, 3.5 or 4.5 goals and more.

Double chance

If you’re less of a risk-taker when it comes to betting, then a double chance bet is a great option for you.

When you fancy an underdog to avoid defeat but aren’t confident enough to fancy them to take the victory, then you can back them double chance – with the draw included – to avoid defeat. Of course, you can also back favourites to win in the same market, but you’re not likely to get particularly exciting odds in this case.

Anytime Goalscorer

We love a stats bet at Squawka, but with player shots, assists and tackles markets less likely to be available at this particular tournament, anytime goalscorer bets may be the way to go.

Here, all you’re looking to do is pick a player to score within the match. You can of course also back the player to score the first or last goal, or his team’s first or last goal if you’d rather.

Bookings

In international tournaments – even youth tournaments – tensions are running high with players looking to do their country proud on the continental stage.

As such, bookings markets may be worth checking out here – whether that’s specific players to receive a card or unders/overs, red card markets and plenty more.

U21 Euro 2023 Groups

Group A: Georgia, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands
Group B: Romania, Spain, Ukraine, Croatia
Group C: Czech Republic, England, Germany, Israel
Group D: Norway, Switzerland, France, Italy

U21 European Championship dates

The tournament gets underway on June 21st, with all four teams from Group A and Group B in action.
