They have already spent nearly \u00a3250 million on Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke. Plus free agents Andy Robertson, Martin Dubravka and Marcos Senesi who have also joined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Say what you will about the spending, Tottenham are fixing problems that led to back-to-back 17th-placed finishes in the Premier League &#8211; at least partly. And both Man City forwards would fill big gaps in Spurs&#8217; current squad. Let&#8217;s dig in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-yoast-seo-table-of-contents yoast-table-of-contents\"><h2>Why are Tottenham eyeing Savinho and Marmoush?<\/h2><ul><li><a href=\"#h-lack-of-premier-league-proven-wingers\" data-level=\"3\">Lack of Premier League-proven wingers<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-no-reliable-strikers\" data-level=\"3\">No reliable strikers<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-injuries-and-versatility\" data-level=\"3\">Injuries and versatility<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-lack-of-premier-league-proven-wingers\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lack of Premier League-proven wingers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tottenham have strengthened massively at the back and in midfield. But the forward line is still a little thin in terms of depth and quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">21-year-old Mathys Tel is currently their number one option in the left wing. The Frenchman did finish last season on a high and has also been a stand-out performer in pre-season. But would maybe fare better as an alternative off the bench than having the responsibility of being the starter at this point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Academy youngster Mikey Moore was one of Rangers&#8217; only bright sparks last season. But is in a similar situation to Tel&#8217;s &#8211; only with even less minutes on the pitch with a Spurs shirt. Though he did impress in the 3-0 friendly win over Hoffenheim last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mohammed Kudus is a fine option and was one of Tottenham&#8217;s best players early on into Thomas Frank&#8217;s tenure as manager. It&#8217;s hard to spin two goals in 53 appearances into some sort of positive, of course. But scoring wasn&#8217;t his main job at Man City and probably still wouldn&#8217;t be at Tottenham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Roberto De Zerbi usually likes his wingers holding width, pinning opposing full-backs wide to stretch the defensive line and create spaces on the channels. Savinho&#8217;s speed, skill and &#8216;inventiveness&#8217; on the wing would be a huge upgrade to get to the line and create chances for his teammates through crosses and cutbacks.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class='vccm vccm-compare'data-compare=\"p0FpBkALNF4HU37hUIvj3\" data-show-sponsor=\"false\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-no-reliable-strikers\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">No reliable strikers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The striker position has also been a problem for Tottenham lately. Richarlison had a decent campaign last season, all things considered, with 11 goals in 32 appearances. But he has only surpassed this tally in the Premier League for Everton (13 in 2018\/19 and 2019\/20).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other than him, the only player to score five league goals for them was defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha, who&#8217;s no longer at the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dominic Solanke has been in and out of matchday squads due to injuries and has featured just 42 times across two seasons, scoring 12 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Omar Marmoush may not be an out-and-out striker, playing better in a second striker kind of role. But he can lead the line if De Zerbi so chooses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Egyptian hasn&#8217;t lived up to the price Man City paid to get him from Eintracht Frankfurt. But did score seven goals in 16 Premier League appearances in his first six months at the Etihad. James Maddison got the nod as a false nine and Richarlison has gotten a few deep touches as of late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having a mobile forward leading the line with the ability to drop deep and drag centre-backs away from the heart of defence while also having enough speed to make runs in behind could be in the cards for the Italian manager. And Marmoush fits this profile.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class='vccm vccm-compare'data-compare=\"BTOlO1oAViuCTJs-iTIX3\" data-show-sponsor=\"false\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He could also play behind or alongside Richarlison, as a second striker or number 10. This would mean a big change in the type of player De Zerbi has gone with in this position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conor Gallagher often featured in this role down the stretch last season, which helped Spurs a lot out of possession. His energy and work rate allowed them to press higher and harder, recovering possession closer to goal. Marmoush is nowhere near Gallagher&#8217;s level in this regard, but brings much more attacking threat and technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-injuries-and-versatility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Injuries and versatility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Injuries are still very much a concern for Tottenham. Kudus, Xavi Simons, Dejan Kulusevski and Odobert all currently unavailable. Dominic Solanke and James Maddison have been on and off in the last few months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adding attacking depth is only going to help Spurs. But Savinho&#8217;s and Marmoush&#8217;s ability to play in multiple positions even more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we mentioned before, the Brazilian can play in either wing. Meanwhile, the Egyptian can both lead the line and also play behind\/alongside another striker. Not to mention he can do a job out wide if required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both had poor campaigns last season, but have shown enough quality to justify investment. Their productivity in limited minutes can also get Spurs fans hopeful that it would be even better with more game time.
