A 4-2 opening win over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.squawka.com\/en\/stats\/clubs\/croatia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Croatia<\/a> seems so far in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, both games provided good moments for Tuchel to learn about his squad. And, more importantly, how to deal with these stubborn but different types of defensive units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-yoast-seo-table-of-contents yoast-table-of-contents\"><h2>England tactical analysis:<\/h2><ul><li><a href=\"#h-double-width-patterns\" data-level=\"2\">Double width patterns<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-added-depth-runs\" data-level=\"2\">Added depth runs<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-jude-s-new-role\" data-level=\"2\">Jude&#8217;s &#8220;new&#8221; role<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-moving-forward\" data-level=\"2\">Moving forward?<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-double-width-patterns\">Double width patterns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tuchel used similar patterns in the games against Ghana and Panama. He looked to utilise double-width to isolate the wingers one-on-one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both full-backs started slightly lower and more narrow, pinning Panama&#8217;s wide midfielders in their 5-4-1 shape infield. This did two things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, it opened up an easier pass into the winger in a wide area. Morgan Rogers also often drifted outside the block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jarrell Quansah played at right-back in a more passive manner, which created space on the axis between him and Bukayo Saka to receive. But they perhaps struggle with the execution due to the quality of deep-passers in the squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Kane isn&#8217;t dropping deep to release those passes, the burden is heavily on Elliot Anderson, with Reece James out injured and the likes of Adam Wharton and Trent Alexander-Arnold not in the squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-jude-s-new-role\">Jude&#8217;s &#8220;new&#8221;
