After all, when they won the World Cup in 2010, they began the tournament with a 1-0 defeat to Switzerland before recovering to lift the trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For starters, Spain are now unbeaten in 31 matches &#8211; excluding penalty shoot-outs &#8211; while they haven\u2019t lost a competitive match outside of a penalty shoot-out defeat to Portugal since losing 2-0 to Scotland back in March 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it&#8217;s worth noting that Spain have failed to win any of their last four World Cup matches and have never gone five games at the tournament without a victory. They also haven&#8217;t failed to score in consecutive matches across all competitions since 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.squawka.com\/en\/stats\/clubs\/saudi-arabia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saudi Arabia<\/a> will gain a little dose of hope from this as they bid to cause an upset, as they memorably did at the 2022 World Cup when they beat eventual champions Argentina in their opening game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saudi Arabia opened the 2026 edition with a 1-1 draw against Uruguay, which they will hope to build on against Spain.
