Didier Deschamps is fast-approaching on 14 wins &#8211; level with Luiz Felipe Scolari &#8211; meaning the France manager is well within striking distance of this managerial milestone. Should he guide his side to another World Cup triumph in North America, Scaloni would become the first manager in history to win four major international tournaments in a row, which would be a quite extraordinary feat for the 48-year-old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-best-unbeaten-streak\">Best unbeaten streak<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lionel Scaloni can break Luiz Felipe Scolari\u2019s record of 12 unbeaten World Cup matches.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luiz Felipe Scolari holds the record for the longest unbeaten streak by a manager at World Cups, overseeing 12 consecutive matches without defeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Brazilian guided his country through seven unbeaten matches on the way to lifting the 2002 World Cup before extending the run with Portugal in 2006 tournament, where he went five games undefeated before a defeat to France in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That record could come under pressure from Lionel Scaloni in 2026. After Argentina&#8217;s surprise 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in their opening match of the 2022 World Cup, Scaloni&#8217;s side responded brilliantly, going unbeaten through the remainder of the tournament and ultimately lifting the trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, the Argentina manager currently carries a six-match unbeaten World Cup run into the 2026 edition. So, to surpass Scolari&#8217;s mark of 12 consecutive games without defeat, Scaloni would need to surge Argentina to another final without losing a match along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-first-foreign-winner\">First foreign winner<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The World Cup has never been won by a manager coaching a country other than their own, something which could change this summer.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps surprisingly, the World Cup has never been won by a manager of a country that&#8217;s not their own. In fact, only two have really come close to this: Englishman George Raynor when he led Sweden to the 1958 final, and Austria\u2019s Ernst Happel when he came runner-up with the Netherlands in 1978.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">26 managers in charge of foreign countries now have the opportunity to make history this summer. Italian Carlo Ancelotti with Brazil, German Thomas Tuchel with England, and Spain\u2019s Roberto Mart\u00ednez with Portugal will be the most fancied in this category, while Argentine Mauricio Pochettino is the manager of co-hosts USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-first-winner-on-multiple-continents\">First winner on multiple continents<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Didier Deschamps (2018) and Lionel Scaloni (2022) are each bidding to become the first manager to lift the World Cup trophy on two different continents.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Across the 22 previous World Cups, 21 different managers have lifted football\u2019s biggest prize. The only exception is Vittorio Pozzo, who remains the sole manager to have won the tournament twice, when he led Italy to back-to-back triumphs in 1934 and 1938.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several managers have come close to matching that achievement. Helmut Sch\u00f6n (West Germany), Mario Zagallo (Brazil), Carlos Bilardo (Argentina), Franz Beckenbauer (Germany), and most recently Didier Deschamps (France) have all won the World Cup once and also finished as runners-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">World Cup 2026, however, could potentially see a new record of winning multiple World Cups on different continents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As mentioned, only Pozzo has ever won multiple World Cups, and both of his triumphs with Italy came in Europe (Italy 1934 and France 1938).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deschamps led France to glory in Europe (Russia 2018) and Lionel Scaloni guided Argentina to success in Asia (Qatar 2022), meaning both bosses now head to North America with the chance to add an unprecedented second continental win to their collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-oldest-manager\">Oldest manager<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dick Advocaat, 78, is set to become the oldest manager in World Cup history.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Otto Rehhagel holds the record as the oldest manager to take charge at a World Cup, having been 71 years old when he oversaw Greece in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That record will fall this summer, with Dick Advocaat set to arrive at the World Cup aged 78. The veteran Dutch coach guided Curacao to the tournament for the first time in the nation&#8217;s history, but then stepped down from the role earlier this year to focus on caring for his ill daughter. The Italian will celebrate his 67th birthday on 10th June &#8211; the eve of the World Cup &#8211; and would comfortably surpass Del Bosque&#8217;s record if he were to lead the Selecao to glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spain manager Luis de la Fuente is another major contender. Currently 64, he turns 65 on 21st June, and will be hoping to add a World Cup triumph to the Euro 2024 trophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several other veteran coaches have an outside chance of challenging the record. Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman is 63, Belgium manager Rudi Garcia is 62, while Uruguay&#8217;s Marcelo Bielsa enters the tournament at 70 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-most-consecutive-tournaments\">Most consecutive tournaments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Carlos Queiroz is set to equal Bora Milutinovic\u2019s record of managing in five consecutive World Cups.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carlos Parreira\u2019s record of managing at six different World Cups &#8211; Kuwait (1982), the United Arab Emirates (1990), Brazil (1994 &amp; 2006), Saudi Arabia (1998), and South Africa (2010) &#8211; will remain in tact but Carlos Queiroz is set to equal Bora Milutinovic\u2019s record of managing at five consecutive World Cups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Milutinovic oversaw Mexico in 1986, Costa Rica in 1990, United States in 1994, Nigeria in 1998, then China in 2002. Queiroz, meanwhile, is currently enjoying a run of four World Cups &#8211; Portugal in 2010, then Iran in 2014, 2018, and 2022 &#8211; a tally he will enhance to five with Ghana this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Queiroz also previously led South Africa to World Cup 2002 but quit just before the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-champions-league-and-world-cup-double-up\">Champions League and World Cup double up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Carlo Ancelotti (Brazil) and Thomas Tuchel (England) will be hoping to become only the third manager to win both the Champions League and the World Cup.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carlo Ancelotti (Brazil) and Thomas Tuchel (England) both have the opportunity to achieve the rare managerial feat of winning both the Champions League and the World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only two managers in history have completed this elite double. The first to do so was Italian Marcelo Lippi who won the Champions League with Juventus in 1996 before guiding Italy to World Cup glory in 2006. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next up, Vicente del Bosque won multiple Champions League titles with Real Madrid before leading Spain to their first &#8211; and still only &#8211; World Cup triumph in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ancelotti already stands alone as the most successful manager in Champions League history with five triumphs, while Tuchel masterminded Chelsea&#8217;s victory in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Should either manager go on to lift the World Cup in 2026, they would join this extremely exclusive group of managers who have conquered both club and
