Andy Robertson is set to depart Liverpool after nearly 10 years of service.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 32-year-old joined in 2017 following relegation with Hull City, making Reds fans unsure of his abilities. Fast forward nine years and he has become a club legend and cult hero having helped the team win, on average, one trophy per season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, however, both Robertson and Liverpool decided to call time on an incredible partnership. He will start the 2026-27 season elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n

    During an interview in 2022<\/a>, he mentioned that his desire was to finish his footballing career at Anfield. The one condition he specified was that he remained his usual self.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    “Ideally I want to finish my career here at Liverpool. If I can stay at the top of my game, at the top of the tree my whole career, that\u2019s the route I want to go down,” he told BT Sport podcast Currie Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The fact that he’s still just 32 and recently decided to leave says a lot about how he views himself nowadays. Which makes this specific exercise more interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Dream: Celtic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Andy Robertson is a declared Celtic fan and has spoken publicly about his desire to represent the Hoops at professional level. He spent some time in the academy as a teenager, but the club released him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In fact, the quote above happened while he was talking about potentially joining Celtic. Before that, in the same interview, he said that considers a move to Celtic Park every time he watches the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Another boyhood fan recently rejoined the club: Robertson’s Scotland national team teammate and fellow left-back Kieran Tierney. He has played well since returning and in a much more attacking manner than we grew used to seeing the previous years of his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Uruguayan international Marcelo Saracchi has also impressed since joining last summer, but is on a loan deal from Boca Juniors.<\/p>\n\n\n

    So they don’t exactly need<\/em> a left-back. Still, Robertson would surely be a good addition and have a much easier time than in the Premier League. And he has coexisted with Tierney for Scotland, with the former Arsenal man either playing as right-back or a wide centre-back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    There’s also a chance Saracchi returns to Argentina and they will need another left-back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    But Robertson also mentioned a desire to give Celtic his best years, considering his love for the club. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    “I don\u2019t want to go as a 34 or 35-year-old old guy that my uncles start hating on because I can\u2019t move any more. Time will tell,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It does make a move look less likely. But at the same time, he’s not 34 or 35 years old. Despite the drop-off over the past year or so, he still has enough to offer – especially at Scottish Premiership level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Realistic: Tottenham<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    When news broke that Robertson was leaving Liverpool, many reports followed regarding a Tottenham move. Spurs seem to be in pole position to sign the Scotland international, having struggled to find a reliable left-back in recent months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Ben Davies has become more of a centre-back over the last few years and has been injured more often than not. Destiny Udogie has failed to make the position his own. Right-back Djed Spence has filled in multiple times and Brazilian youngster Souza joined earlier in the year – though he’s still rather raw.<\/p>\n\n\n

    Robertson’s leadership and experience would probably go a long way helping Spurs considering how the last two seasons have gone. Especially the current one – they will face Sunderland this Sunday sitting in the relegation zone for the first time since opening day in 2015-16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Still, the 32-year-old is no longer his best self. Tottenham might be around the Premier League bottom-three now, but for where they want – and should – be, Andy Robertson might not be the best option in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Wildcard: Hull City<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    It’s hard to consider new-club possibilities and not speculate a good, old-fashioned reunion. Hull City signed Robertson as a 20-year-old from Dundee United in 2014 and it’s where he introduced himself to the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Scotsman became a regular starter in 2015, won promotion from the Championship in 2016 and remained first-option left-back in the season that ended with relegation. Still, his energy impressed Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp and the rest is history.<\/p>\n\n\n

      Now, the Tigers are in a similar position. They have been in the top-6 basically the whole campaign and look set to feature in the play-offs despite nearly facing the drop to League One last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Ironically, Hull have struggled in the left-back position. They have missed Ryan Giles dearly since his injury – but he’s a rather one-dimensional full-back. His attacking contributions are crucial to the team, but he can struggle defensively. Akin Famewo is also out, leaving right-back Lewie Coyle temporarily in charge of the left side of defence.<\/p>\n\n\n

      Regardless of them going up or staying in the Championship for another year, Robertson would make an instant impact on and off the pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      But the second tier might be too low for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Squawka Suggests: Brentford<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Which is why taking a step down but still in the Premier League makes more sense. Brentford have been one of the most interesting stories in the top-flight this season, currently fighting for a spot to play European football next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Keith Andrews’ first season in charge is set to surpass any of their campaigns under Thomas Frank, which is a huge achievement. Still, they would have to prove that what is happening right now isn’t a ‘fluke’. And European football usually takes a toll on the league form the following year for lesser sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Not only would having an experienced and decorated player help them out, but the Bees are in desperate need of a left-back. RIco Henry has been a fine servant but has had a few injury issues and is good enough to be a back-up and not much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Keane Lewis-Potter, who is right-footed and originally an attacking-midfielder\/winger, has played a lot at left-back.<\/p>\n\n\n

      Brentford need a player of Robertson’s position and experience, while Robertson himself would likely want to play more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      It would be a perfect way of recognising he may not be the same player he once was, and that title-contending, Champions League teams might be too much for him at this stage. <\/p>\n\n\n
