He also chips in going forward, having picked up two goals and one assist in 20 games this season, which has been an inury-riddled one. Maguire scored four goals in each of his previous two seasons at the club. The Englishman also ranks eighth among centre-backs in set-piece shots per 90 minutes (0.75).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recent form even got him back into the England squad after an 18-month absence. He had never featured in Thomas Tuchel&#8217;s callups before. The last one had been in September 2024, when Lee Carsley held the reins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has played well for his country over the years. It&#8217;s actually easy to picture him as a second-half substitute and getting a set-piece equaliser on a header late on in the World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-long-term-impact\">Long-term impact<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Maguire also reportedly turned down a big money move to MLS in order to stay earning less. It appears to be his desire to end his career at Old Trafford &#8211; and there is a place for him as he gets older.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, he still has plenty to offer on the pitch.
