A<\/a><\/b>rsenal<\/a> sent out a huge statement in the Premier League<\/a> title race with a 4-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> in Sunday’s North London derby.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After disappointing draws against Brentford and Wolves, the pressure was on the Gunners, especially with Manchester City beating Newcastle United 2-1 on Saturday night to close the gap at the top to just two points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Mikel Arteta’s men responded brilliantly, taking the lead against Spurs in the 32nd minute through Eberechi Eze, who dispatched a clinical finish after good work from Jurrien Timber and Bukayo Saka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spurs hit back just two minutes later, with Randal Kolo Muani dispossessing Declan Rice and powering into the box to finish low past David Raya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But just after half-time, Viktor Gyokeres scored a stunning goal from the edge of the box, while Eze grabbed his second of the game just past the hour mark to wrap up the points for the leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spurs pushed to get back into the game, and Richarlison did force an incredible goalline save from Raya. However, it was more of the same from a side enduring another miserable Premier League season, with Gyokeres grabbing his second of the game in added time to rub salt into the wound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eze delivers vital derby goods again for Arsenal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Eberechi Eze now has six Premier League goals to his name as an Arsenal player, and incredibly, five of them have come against Tottenham Hotspur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Crystal Palace man, of course, netted a hat-trick against the Lilywhites in a 4-1 win for Arsenal back in November<\/a>. But since then, he hasn’t even registered another shot on target in the Premier League, let alone a goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Eze smelled Tottenham blood like a shark in the water, dispatching two excellent finishes either side of half-time to put Arsenal in complete control of this most important of derbies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a brace well-deserved on an afternoon where Eze also created two chances (including one big chance), had five touches in the opposition box and attempted two dribbles, menacing a Spurs backline desperately short on confidence and cohesion amid injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We shouldn’t be surprised by this, of course, given Eze had scored six career goals against Tottenham ahead of this fixture, with no opponent suffering more at his hands to date. <\/p>\n\n\n

    Gyokeres puts in best performance yet to bully Spurs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The jury is most certainly still out on Viktor Gyokeres, especially given the mammoth sum Arsenal paid to bring him from Sporting CP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Some goals have been lucky, some goals have been sublime. Some performances have been utterly anonymous, some performances have been dominant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Gyokeres delivered the latter in both categories on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Sweden international was a battering ram for the Gunners against the Spurs centre-backs, contesting a total of 11 duels and winning five of them, while causing havoc with all of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Gyokeres — who was named Man of the Match by Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville — also had seven touches in the opposition box and created one big chance, while his flick-on was vital in the build-up to Eze’s second goal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Then there was Gyokeres’ first strike, with his one touch and powerful finish from 20 yards dispatched in the manner of a striker brimming with confidence, rather than one enduring a run of four blanks in his last five games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Gyokeres then showed great strength to brush off Archie Gray and sweep home his second of the match deep into second-half stoppage time, completing Arsenal’s biggest league win away at Tottenham since 1978.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    “Gyokeres is my man of the match, it is the best I’ve seen him in a big game,” said Neville. “His link-up play has been good, and he deserves it — he has looked sharper in his movement. Sometimes he looks heavy, and it is the most touches (42) he has ever had in a Premier League game.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It hasn’t always been pretty from Gyokeres since joining Arsenal, and even now, he still has a lot to prove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    However, that’s 14 goals for the season already, while this was his best performance in a red and white shirt yet. Keep turning up in this manner, and Gyokeres could run up some serious numbers between now and the end of the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What does this result mean for Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The Igor Tudor era at Tottenham Hotspur has started in a similar manner to the Thomas Frank one ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This defeat was Spurs’ third in a row in the Premier League, while they’re now winless in nine top-flight matches and have won just one of their last 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    All of that leaves Spurs 16th and just four points clear of London rivals West Ham United in 18th. And it doesn’t get much easier for the Lilywhites, who travel to Fulham and Liverpool in the opening couple of weeks of March, either side of hosting Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As for Arsenal, they’ve re-opened a five-point gap on Manchester City in the title race, while moving 10 points clear of Aston Villa, following the latter’s disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Leeds United on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Man City still have a game in hand on the Gunners, with the two sides locking horns at the Etihad Stadium on 18th April. Before then, however, Arsenal have tough fixtures against Chelsea (H), Brighton (A), Everton (H) and Bournemouth (H) — not to mention an FA Cup tie at Mansfield and another clash against Man City at Wembley in the EFL Cup final.<\/p>\n\n\n
