The biggest question for Rosenior will be how he looks to sustainably create a high volume of chances to score, as his Strasbourg side struggle to sustain pressure in the final third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-aggressive-out-of-possession-approach\">Aggressive out of possession approach<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving on to the defensive approach of Rosenior, which again has plenty of resemblance to that of Maresca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosenior has stated himself he used to be a &#8220;zonal guy&#8221;, but has since evolved and prefers utilising man oriented defensive schemes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, when speaking about his first months incharge at Hull City, Rosenior spoke about the importance of providing &#8220;stepping stones&#8221; for his group to keep improving, which started with working on the defensive shape and principles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175-1024x768.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1422602\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175-1024x768.png 1024w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175-1536x1152.png 1536w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175-356x267.png 356w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175-267x200.png 267w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175-80x60.png 80w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175-150x113.png 150w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175-40x30.png 40w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/2026\/01\/06171408\/TACTICALista_202616175.png 1760w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tacticalista.com\/\">Image via TACTICALista<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The base out of possession shape for Rosenior can shift between a number of formations, with the most popular being a 5-2-3 defensive block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Rosenior wants his side to be aggressive and regain possession quickly, which often means this can shift into a 4-4-2 or even a 3-2-2-3 pressing shape, as each player is tasked with a man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pressing triggers are an important part of Rosenior&#8217;s defensive ideas, looking to sit in their base shape (e.g. 5-2-3), before jumping to a man for man approach when the ball is either passed backwards, or towards the side where you can look to trap the opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The defensive line is often positioned fairly high, looking to encourage longer balls which Rosenior&#8217;s team can swarm and regain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-could-his-chelsea-look\">How could his Chelsea look?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosenior is not a manager wedded to a particular starting shape, but as previously mentioned, his on-ball and off-ball principles will remain the same irrespective of shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, whether he decides to set up with a starting shape of a 3-4-3 or a 4-2-3-1, the identity of his team will remain clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the ball, a back three will be formed (or already intact), commonly with a full-back profile tucked into the back three.
