Serge Gnabry missed out due to injury. Yet rather than pack the midfield, Kompany moved his star striker deeper. Kane started in the number 10 role with Nicolas Jackson leading the charge. It was a forward thinking move that had a huge impact on the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-kane-in-the-number-10-role\">Kane in the number 10 role<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Kane isn\u2019t one to remain in the opposition box. Rather, fans so often see the England captain dropping deep to receive possession from the midfield, hold up play and set wingers on the way. There was a moment in the first half against Dortmund that Kane was one of the furthest players back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In doing so, he helped out defensively, held off the Dortmund press and released Konrad Laimer. Bayern turned defence into attack in one rapid passage of play. The ball eventually found its way to Michael Olise, who forced Gregor Kobel into a smart stop. Dortmund couldn\u2019t handle Kane\u2019s movement. With three interchanging forwards, he had plenty of targets to aim for in the final third. It was remarkable that Bayern were only one goal to the good \u2013 through Kane of course \u2013 as they battered Dortmund. The 32-year-old admitted that Bayern targeted Dortmund\u2019s \u2018weak zone\u2019 for his near-post header from a Joshua Kimmich corner midway through the first half<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet, it wasn&#8217;t just Kane&#8217;s goal that stood out. As the above heatmap shows, Kane is the first box-to-box forward. Having scored the opener, he was again instrumental in what proved to be Olise\u2019s winning goal. It was Kane who pulled to the right flank to get on the ball. He then played a stunning cross-field pass for Diaz to leave the Colombian in a one-versus-one situation with Waldemar Anton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lethal-anywhere-on-the-pitch\">Lethal anywhere on the pitch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Dortmund defender struggled to stop the winger, who fired a low ball across the box. Jobe Bellingham was in the right place at the right time to cut out the danger. He failed to clear the decks as Olise slid in to double Bayern\u2019s advantage. The goal, though, would not have been possible without Kane. Diaz timed his run to perfection, but the striker barely had to break his stride to pick out the summer signing from range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the day, Kane completed nine long balls in Der Klassiker, boasting a 90% accuracy. Only Kimmich (12) and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (11) completed more. This was peak Kane. One who has developed into more than just a goalscoring striker. He ranks behind three players for assists (3) in the Bundesliga this season. 14 chances created ranks joint-ninth with Diaz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While hugely effective in the penalty area, Kane is just as destructive outside of the box. On the halfway line, in his own half, or with his back to goal, this is next evolution of Kane. He\u2019s always been one to drop to receive the ball from teammates, yet there\u2019s been a huge improvement to this side of his game in recent months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In truth, it shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise either. Bayern are Germany\u2019s dominant force. They rank top for possession (62.1%) in the Bundesliga, meaning teams sit deeper when they face the champions. And it means Kane needs to remain active across all areas of the pitch to really influence play. He did, after all, rank third for possession won in the midfield third (2) and fourth for the defensive third (3) on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Combined with his world class ability to bring others into play, wherever Kane pops up you just know he\u2019s going to hurt you. Bayern are bulldozing their way to another Bundesliga title.
