Manchester City are in the final of the Champions League for the second half after their 5-1 aggregate victory over Real Madrid.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The two sides went into this game level after a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu with Kevin De Bruyne cancelling out Vinicius Jr’s opener, but there was nothing equal about Wednesday’s game.<\/p>\n

The damage was done in the first half with Bernardo Silva’s brace but there was still room for Manuel Akanji’s header and Julian Alvarez’s late strike to make it 4-0 on the night.<\/p>\n

Here’s how the players rated at Etihad:<\/p>\n

Man City<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ederson – 6 – <\/strong>Had nothing to do in the first half except for watching Kroos’ shot hit the crossbar. Produced a good save from Alaba’s free-kick in the second half but that was the extent of his involvement in the game.<\/p>\n

Kyle Walker – 8 – <\/strong>The first leg was tough for Walker but at the Etihad he was absolutely superb, keeping Vinicius firmly in his pocket. He won every battle and race, rolling back the years.<\/p>\n

Ruben Dias – 8 – <\/strong>Was booked for a foul on Vinicius in the second half but it was a relatively straightforward game for Dias who helped nullify Benzema.<\/p>\n

Manuel Akanji – 8 – <\/strong>Pushed forward as the left centre-back\/left-back hybrid and kept the flank on complete lock, suffocating Rodrygo. Got his head onto a De Bruyne free-kick which was eventually credited to him despite deflecting in off Militao.<\/p>\n

John Stones – 8 – <\/strong>There isn’t too much to write about Stones apart from the fact that it was another great performance in the midfield.<\/p>\n

Rodri – 8 – <\/strong>Alongside Stones deep in the midfield, Rodri helped protect the Man City defence and kept Madrid seriously frustrated.<\/p>\n

Bernardo Silva – 9 – <\/strong>Wonderful. The forgotten man of the Man City midfield with regards to Madrid’s game plan and who they targeted, and he made them pay. When Courtois was looking unbeatable, Silva gave his side the lead with a smart finish sending the Belgian the wrong way. Doubled the lead and put Man City in firm control with a lovely cushioned header and caused Camavinga serious problems.<\/p>\n

Kevin De Bruyne – 8 – <\/strong>Hurt Real Madrid early on with his crossing and passing, setting up Silva’s opener with such a cute pass, perfectly-weighted between the Real Madrid defence. His free-kicks had been quite poor until the delivery for the third goal, tempting even Militao to get a touch onto it.<\/p>\n

Ilkay Gundogan – 8 – <\/strong>Put in his usual high-quality performance in the thankless midfield role, allowing Silva and De Bruyne to thrive even more.<\/p>\n

Jack Grealish – 8 – <\/strong>Really enjoyed himself up against Carvajal and once again the only way Madrid could stop him was to kick him to bits. In the best form of his Man City career so far.<\/p>\n

Erling Haaland – 6 – <\/strong>On another day, Haaland would have got a hat-trick and we’d be talking about a fantastic performance. On the periphery as he often is, this time it didn’t work out. He had three chances but saw Courtois pull off three fantastic saves — though you’d also ask Haaland to do better with the first header and late one-on-one.<\/p>\n

    Real Madrid<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Thibaut Courtois – 7 – <\/strong>If it wasn’t for Courtois this would have been 7-0. Couldn’t really do too much about the goals but pulled off a hat-trick of fantastic saves all on Haaland, including one from point-blank range.<\/p>\n

    Dani Carvajal – 3 – <\/strong>Suffered against Grealish throughout and will surely have been grateful for his substitution.<\/p>\n

    Eder Militao – 4 – <\/strong>The man tasked with keeping Haaland quiet, Militao gave the Norwegian something to think about in the early stages but his impact wasn’t anywhere near the level of Rudiger in the first half. Then put the ball past Courtois for Man City’s third, though it was later given to Akanji. A team change that didn’t pay off.<\/p>\n

    David Alaba – 4 – <\/strong>Cleared the ball off the line early on after Haaland’s shot and tested Ederson with a free-kick but defensively he wasn’t great — not that anyone was.<\/p>\n

    Eduardo Camavinga – 3 – <\/strong>Really struggled up against Silva, letting the Portuguese move clear in the build up to both goals. He was guilty of following the ball rather than keeping an eye on his man, and it was costly. Moved into midfield after Rudiger came on.<\/p>\n

    Federico Valverde – 4 – <\/strong>His pass accuracy was high but Valverde really didn’y have an influence on this game.<\/p>\n

    Toni Kroos – 6 – <\/strong>Had the most touches of any Real Madrid player during his time on the pitch and rattled the crossbar with a thumping effort in the first half. Fingers could be pointed at him for letting Silva move into the box unmarked, but there were others around him. Probably the only Madrid midfielder who played okay.<\/p>\n

    Luka Modric – 4 – <\/strong>A poor showing from the usually fantastic midfielder, which played a big role in Madrid having no real footing in the game. Ball watching as Silva made it 2-0<\/p>\n

    Rodrygo – 3 – <\/strong>Very quiet and completely shut down by Akanji.<\/p>\n

    Karim Benzema – 3 – <\/strong>Not in the game at all, almost non-existent. A shock for Benzema in the latter stages of the Champions League.<\/p>\n

    Vinicius Jr – 3 – <\/strong>Completed just 14 passes, fewer than any other Real Madrid starter and was kept quiet by Walker.<\/p>\n

    Antonio Rudiger\u00a0<\/strong>(for Modric 63) – 5 –\u00a0<\/strong>Fared better than the man he replaced but Man City were in cruise control by that point.<\/p>\n

    Marco Asensio\u00a0<\/strong>(for Kroos 70) – 5 –\u00a0<\/strong>Didn’t make much difference.<\/p>\n
