After a night of attack vs. defence, Manchester United and Spurs played out a 1-1 draw in North London.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Red Devils dominated the game in terms of attack but Spurs almost pulled off a perfect “Mourinho” performance, only being undone by a late penalty from United.<\/p>\n

Here’s how the players rated at Tottenham Stadium:<\/p>\n

Spurs<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Hugo Lloris – 8 – <\/strong>A couple of immense saves early to keep the scores level but the pick of the bunch was a phenomenal second-half stop to deny Anthony Martial. Only beaten by a penalty.<\/p>\n

Serge Aurier – 6 – <\/strong>Ran up and down the touchline.<\/p>\n

Davinson S\u00e1nchez – 8 – <\/strong>An impassable presence for United. Passed every test the Red Devils gave him, both athletic and technical.<\/p>\n

Eric Dier – 5 – <\/strong>A mostly even display the heart of Spurs’ defence highlighted by a superb block from Anthony Martial but low-lighted by his foul on Pogba to concede the penalty for United’s equaliser.<\/p>\n

Ben Davies – 7 – <\/strong>Defended his flank well.<\/p>\n

Harry Winks – 6 – <\/strong>Soaked up pressure like a true Mourinho defensive midfielder. Not in his element but never gave up.<\/p>\n

Moussa Sissoko – 8 – <\/strong>Defended superbly ahead of the defence, especially in the last five minutes when he just started deading United attacks in the open field.<\/p>\n

Erik Lamela – 7 – <\/strong>Battled United well without the ball and then was always a lively threat with it.<\/p>\n

Steven Bergwijn – 8 – <\/strong>Wonderful run through the heart of the United defence before his rasping drive opened the scoring. Always looked dangerous when in possession.<\/p>\n

Heung-min Son – 7 – <\/strong>Dropped back and was always involved defensively. Made some good runs too, but nothing came off for him.<\/p>\n

Harry Kane – 5 – <\/strong>Anonymous. Quite clearly a million miles from being truly match-fit.<\/p>\n

Substitutes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Giovani Lo Celso <\/strong>(for Bergwijn 70′) – 5 – <\/strong>Couldn’t lift Spurs.<\/p>\n

Gedson Fernandes <\/strong>(for Lamela 70′) – 6 – <\/strong>Looked bright when he had the ball.<\/p>\n

Manchester United<\/strong><\/h2>\n

David de Gea – 3 – <\/strong>Awful goalkeeping to let Bergwijn’s shot go through him. Typically he performed well after his blunder, but nothing could make up for the mistake that decided the game. Roy Keane called him overrated and whls<\/p>\n

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6 – <\/strong>An impassable wall 1v1 but didn’t do enough in attack.<\/p>\n

Victor Lindelof – 5 – <\/strong>A somewhat nothing of a display. Not especially bad but was never tested, really. Taken off late.<\/p>\n

Harry Maguire – 4 – <\/strong>Caught flat-footed for Spurs’ goal. Failed to organise the high defensive line United were playing. Not massive errors but in a game with margins as fine as this, costly ones.<\/p>\n

Luke Shaw – 5 – <\/strong>Awful headed clearance in the lead-up to Spurs’ opener. Gamely tried to make things happen in attack but was found wanting in terms of quality.<\/p>\n

Scott McTominay – 5 – <\/strong>A lot of effort and not a lot of quality.<\/p>\n

Fred – 6 – <\/strong>Quietly good, but didn’t impose himself enough. Withdrawn for Pogba.<\/p>\n

Bruno Fernandes – 8<\/strong>\u00a0–\u00a0<\/strong>Head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch in terms of vision and ambition. Unreal pass to Martial in the second half and dispatched the penalty with unerring ease.<\/p>\n

Daniel James – 4 – <\/strong>A completely ineffective performance as Spurs starved him of the space he needs to thrive.<\/p>\n

Marcus Rashford – 6 – <\/strong>Looked bright, but was often far too wide where he couldn’t cause danger.<\/p>\n

Anthony Martial – 5 – <\/strong>Utterly anonymous in the first-half and then lively but blunted in the second. Taken off.<\/p>\n

Substitutes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Paul Pogba <\/strong>(for Fred 62′) – 7 – <\/strong>Added thrust and drive to a United side perilously short of it. Won a penalty out of basically nothing by stitching up Eric Dier with some sublime skill. He added a touch of magic to mitigate Mourinho’s masterclass, answering the critics who wondered if United needed him anymore.<\/p>\n

Mason Greenwood <\/strong>(for James 63′) – 6 – <\/strong>Looked lost as a winger but came alive whenever he was in the box. Almost scored.<\/p>\n

Odion Ighalo <\/strong>(for Martial 78′) – 5 – <\/strong>A solid target.<\/p>\n

Nemanja Matic <\/strong>(for Lindelof 78′) – 5 – <\/strong>Played some nice passes out from defence.<\/p>\n
