That <span>Martin Dubravka has made more saves than any other goalkeeper this\u00a0season (103) is indicative of just how vulnerable the Magpies have been, despite picking up points quite routinely. Steve Bruce will feel\u00a0confident of keeping his side afloat, but if performances don&#8217;t pick up on the turf, then Newcastle could be dragged into a nervy finish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\">Key injury concerns:\u00a0<\/b><span>Emil Krafth (ankle),\u00a0Jonjo Shelvey (thigh),\u00a0Javi Manquillo (thigh),\u00a0Yoshinori Muto (hip),\u00a0Dwight Gayle (thigh),\u00a0Andy Carroll (hip),\u00a0Jack Colback (knee),\u00a0Paul Dummett (thigh),\u00a0Jetro Willems (knee),\u00a0Joelinton (ribs)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bruce has a number of injury problems to contend with, including <span>Willems and Dummett who are out for the season.\u00a0Shelvey is also struggling with a hamstring strain and is not expected back until later this month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\">January signings:\u00a0<\/b><span>Nabil Bentaleb (loan), Valentino Lazaro (loan), Danny Rose (loan)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In almost atypical Newcastle fashion the club have amended their shortcomings in the injury department by turning to the transfer market. This may come down to whether Smith can get his new recruits firing on all cylinders from the off.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\">Key injury concerns:\u00a0<\/b>Wesley (ACL), Thomas Heaton (ACL), Jed Steer (calf), Danny Drinkwater (calf), John McGinn (ankle)<\/p>\n<p>The big news for Dean Smith is that first-team duo\u00a0Wesley and\u00a0Heaton are out for the season, while McGinn remains on the sidelines with a fractured ankle, though the Villa boss has revealed the Glaswegian is &#8220;<span>very close&#8221; to a return.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\">January signings:\u00a0<\/b>Danny Drinkwater (loan), Pepe Reina (loan), Mbwana Samatta (\u00a38.5m), Louie Barry (\u00a3885k), Borja Baston (free)<\/p>\n<p>To alleviate the voids of Wesley and Heaton, Smith has brought in Reina at one end of the pitch, and Samatta and Baston at the other. Check. A midfield reinforcement? Check. Firepower to help out the underperforming Anderson? Check.
