{"id":1098201,"date":"2023-06-02T22:30:08","date_gmt":"2023-06-02T21:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.squawka.com\/en\/?p=1098201"},"modified":"2023-06-02T22:36:49","modified_gmt":"2023-06-02T21:36:49","slug":"man-utd-fa-youth-cup-side-2011","status":"publish","type":"features","link":"https:\/\/www.squawka.com\/en\/features\/man-utd-fa-youth-cup-side-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Future first-teamers &#038; forgotten men from Man Utd&#8217;s 2011 FA Youth Cup winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It&#8217;s perhaps unsurprising that Manchester United\u00a0are the most successful club in England when it comes to FA Youth Cup victories.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Red Devils are responsible for the Busby Babes and Class of &#8217;92 after all, and in total, they&#8217;ve lifted the trophy on 11 separate occasions, including five times in the 1950s and, you guessed it, in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>Since the turn of the century, meanwhile, United have won three finals, in 2003, 2011 &#8212; when a squad packed full of talent beat Sheffield United 6-3 on aggregate &#8212; and 2022. Lingard did revive his career on loan at West Ham United in 2020\/21 but failed to secure a permanent move away from Old Trafford, again playing a fringe role under Ralf Rangnick last season.<\/p>\n<p>He eventually left last summer, opting to join Nottingham Forest over West Ham for a lucrative one-year deal, but it ended in disaster as he started just 12 Premier League games and failed to provide a goal or an assist. Ferguson regarded Morrison as one of the most naturally gifted talents to ever come through the youth ranks at the club, but his\u00a0application was, sadly, where the Wythenshawe-born winger fell short.<\/p>\n<p>His star briefly sparkled at West Ham in the 2013-14 campaign.\u00a0But, much in the same way, his career in east London came to an acrimonious end last summer and he, like Pogba, moved to Italy, joining Lazio.<\/p>\n<p>Following an indifferent spell in Rome, Morrison\u00a0was loaned back to England, signing for QPR, where he previously had a temporary stint, before making a less conventional switch to Liga MX&#8217;s Club Atlas. In doing so, Morrison became only the second Englishman to play in Mexico&#8217;s top division.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old made a remarkable return to English football, joining newly-promoted Sheffield United on a one-year contract in 2019 after a short spell with Ostersund in Sweden but again struggled, even when sent on loan to Middlesbrough.<\/p>\n<p>After another short-lived spell, this time in the Netherlands with ADO Den Haag, Morrison has found some consistency and stability in recent years. He flourished at Derby Count in 2021\/22 under Wayne Rooney, and joined the Man Utd legend to D.C. United last summer.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Striker: Will Keane<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1098221\" src=\"https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/en\/2019\/07\/16163001\/will-keane-man-utd-2016.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/en\/2019\/07\/16163001\/will-keane-man-utd-2016.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/en\/2019\/07\/16163001\/will-keane-man-utd-2016-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/en\/2019\/07\/16163001\/will-keane-man-utd-2016-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/media.squawka.com\/images\/en\/2019\/07\/16163001\/will-keane-man-utd-2016-66x44.jpg 66w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Age: <\/strong>30<\/li>\n<li><strong>Current Club:\u00a0<\/strong>Wigan Athletic<\/li>\n<li><strong>Man United First Team Appearances: <\/strong>3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Michael&#8217;s twin brother stuck around slightly longer at Old Trafford and was even briefly involved in the first-team under Louis van Gaal before being allowed to move on by Jose Mourinho.<\/p>\n<p>Will Keane joined Hull City after their promotion to link up with former United assistant, Mike Phelan, but his season was ended prematurely by a serious knee injury. Keane made a handful of Championship appearances for the Tigers before leaving for Ipswich initially on loan and then permanently.<\/p>\n<p>Keane is back in the North West and firing goals for Wigan Athletic. He moved to Royal Antwerp in the 2012-13 campaign, where he worked under former Netherlands international Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.<\/p>\n<p>After failing to set the world alight in Belgium, Van Velzen was allowed to leave United at the end of that season, moving to FC Utrecht where he played for two years before moving to FC Volendam and Roda JC in the Dutch second tier.<\/p>\n<p>He returned to England in 2019 with Crawley but after a loan spell at Aldershot, moved back to his homeland again with Telstar.
