To say Mohamed Salah enjoyed an incredible campaign in front of goal for Liverpool during his debut season would be stating the obvious.

He was outstanding in reaching numbers very few could have predicted him attaining given how he struggled in England previously with Chelsea.<\/p>\n

Considering his final two campaigns with Serie A giants AS Roma, whom he personally destroyed in the Champions League semi-final first leg during that record-breaking season, Salah’s signing was a huge one.<\/p>\n

But again, no one could have foreseen the events that followed. Such was this outstanding campaign it’s worth comparing his efforts to others, notably the goalscoring greats of modern football.<\/p>\n

If anyone could match Messi’s efforts then Cristiano Ronaldo was the best hope. Both, through a borderline obsession with scoring goals, have pushed each other to improbable heights and the Portuguese forward — three years after Messi’s wonderous season — incredibly fell just short by 12 goals.<\/p>\n
