After finishing second in their group behind Shakhtar Donetsk, <span id=\"urn:enhancement-5c073baa\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-organization\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01348\/entity\/arsenal_f-c\">Arsenal<\/span> were drawn against <span id=\"urn:enhancement-6b943447\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-organization\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01348\/entity\/fc_barcelona\">Barcelona<\/span> in the last-16 of the Champions League and were set to face their Catalan rivals &#8212; managed by <span id=\"urn:enhancement-f001cc40\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-person\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01348\/entity\/pep_guardiola\">Pep Guardiola<\/span> &#8212; at the Emirates in the first leg.<\/p>\n<p>The visitors gained an early advantage when David Villa&#8217;s first-half strike found\u00a0the back of the net, silencing the home crowd. But as the Catalans continued to miss a handful of opportunities, <span id=\"urn:enhancement-bc46f69\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-organization\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01348\/entity\/arsenal_f-c\">Arsenal<\/span> severely punished them with two late goals that sent the fans into\u00a0elation, handing Arsene Wenger&#8217;s side the victory.<\/p>\n<p>Wenger &#8212; whose excellent, positive substitutions forced his side to the memorable comeback &#8212; described the game as a &#8220;special night&#8221; and praised the attitude of his players. After a brilliant start to life in north London, he had a disastrous 2014\/15 season that involved several individual errors and off-field incidents &#8211; being dropped after getting caught smoking in the showers after a game against <span id=\"urn:enhancement-9d12dc11\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-organization\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01348\/entity\/southampton_fc\">Southampton<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Back at that time I was smoking regularly and the boss knew it very well,&#8221; he told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arsenal.com\/news\/szczesny-truth-about-smoking-incident\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arsenal Nation<\/a> podcast recently.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He just didn&#8217;t want anybody smoking in the dressing rooms and I knew that also. Because of the emotion of the game, I had a cigarette after the game when the team was still in.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I went in the corner of the showers, so it was at the other end of the dressing room and nobody could see me, and I lit one up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Somebody saw me, it wasn&#8217;t even the boss himself, and just reported it back to the boss. I saw him a couple of days later, he asked me if that was true and I said, &#8216;Yes&#8217;. He went on to become one of the finest full-backs to ever play at the Emirates, making 264 appearances for the club.<\/p>\n<p>After winning the 2003\/04 <span id=\"urn:enhancement-75b7fba\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-organization\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01348\/entity\/premier_league_2\">Premier League<\/span> and 2005 FA Cup, he surprisingly moved to <span id=\"urn:enhancement-bc33ea8c\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-organization\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01348\/entity\/pep_guardiola\">Manchester City<\/span> in 2011, continuing his impressive form.
