Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez has attracted interest from “several teams” but the Mexican is happy at the Midlands outfit, according to his father.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a successful season under Nuno Espírito Santo whose side finished seventh in the Premier League, qualifying for the Europa League, and reached the FA Cup semi-final.

Jimenez staying at Wolves? Five things you need to know…

  1. Raul Jimenez joined Wolves on a season-long loan from Benfica at the start of their first season in the Premier League since 2012.
  2. The forward scored 17 goals in 44 games across all competitions, averaging a goal every 2.58 games.
  3. His impressive form convinced Wolves to exercise the option to sign the striker at the end of the season.
  4. Jimenez will officially be a permanent member of the Wolves set-up from July, making him their most expensive player ever at €38 million.
  5. Despite this, it is reported that several clubs are still interested in signing the centre-forward once that deal is complete.

Speaking to reporters about his son’s impending professional future, Jimenez’s father – Raúl Jiménez Vega – discussed the options available for his son.

Although he confirmed interest from other clubs for his son’s talents, he assured Wolves fans that the Mexican international has every intention to remain with the club “he bet on” last summer.

He said: “There are several teams, even from other countries that are interested, but Raúl is fine.

“He is comfortable, it is due to Wolverhampton and we will be there, he bet on this proposal and fortunately it was the best.”

A successful season for Wolves’ No. 9

Since his move to England, Jimenez has more than proven his worth at Wolves, epitomising the club’s excellent connections by bringing in yet another player with a Portuguese link.

Signed from Benfica, Jimenez’s role was simply to put the ball into the back of the net for the then-newly promoted side but he has done far more than that this season.

His 13 Premier League goals helped Wolves secure their best league finish since 1980 meaning they will be competing in the Europa League next season. No Wolves player has managed more Premier League goals in a single season, with Jimenez bettering the previous record of 12 set by Steven Fletcher in 2011/12.

Averaging 2.9 shots per game, Jimenez has established himself as a real ‘fox in the box’ with 11 of 13 league goals scored from inside the six-yard-area.

Directly contributing to six goals in his last 12 Premier League games (four goals, two assists) and netting in their disappointing FA Cup semi-final collapse against Watford, Jimenez has continued to provide for the club as the season drew to a close.

His 22 outings at Champions League level for Atletico Madrid and Benfica – where he scored four times – will surely aid Wolves’ European ambitions next season.
