Wimbledon is really starting to heat up as we reach the semi-final stages.
Novak Djokovic is the defending champion for the Men, beating Nick Kyrgios in four sets last year having dropped the first set, to claim his seventh crown in London and second in a row. If Djokovic were to make it three in a row, he would tie Roger Federer as the man with the most single titles at Wimbledon, with the Swiss legend currently on eight. Djokovic is also chasing the Calendar Grand Slam, having already won the Australian and French Opens.
However, the Serbian isn’t top seed for Wimbledon, with Carlos Alcaraz reclaiming his spot as world no.1 just before the tournament started. After claiming his first Grand Slam at the US Open in 2022, Alcaraz was absent at the Australian Open and made it to the semi-finals of the French Open and will be hoping for success on grass this summer. The two will now meet in a mouth-watering final.
On the Women’s side, Elena Rybakina is the defending champion, claiming her first Grand Slam by beating Ons Jabeur in last year’s final. She had a great start to 2023, reaching the final of the Australian Open, and has since overcome injuries and illness to defend her crown at this year’s London showpiece. However, Jabeur got her revenge in the quarter-finals this year, coming from behind to knock out the defending champion, meaning there will be a new name on the trophy.
All eyes were on runaway world no.1 Iga Swiatek, the reigning US Open and French Open champion, but she crashed out in the quarter-finals to wildcard Elina Svitolina.
