The January transfer window is nearly upon us with several Premier League clubs set to enter the market once more.

Teams spent north of £200million during the winter window 12 months ago and a similar spree is anticipated as the scrap hots up at both ends of the English top flight.

Relegation candidates will be anxious to pull away from the trap door while the title race is tightening up as we head into the New Year. Liverpool (7/4 to win the league), Manchester City (1/1) and Manchester United (13/2) are all well in the mix to be crowned champions in May.

The January window also offers clubs the chance to reinforce their wounded squads with Liverpool among those on the lookout for defensive cover following long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. Wolves central defender Conor Coady is among those linked.

  • Liverpool 4/1
  • Manchester United 16/1
  • Tottenham 16/1
  • Manchester City 20/1

Premier League dates and deadlines

The January transfer window will open on Saturday, January 2 and run through until Monday, February 1.

The mid-season window is traditionally quieter than the summer transfer dash, though a record £430million was shelled out by Premier League clubs in January 2018. However, new rules due to Brexit and the recent closure of the adjusted summer window mean clubs are unlikely to be liberal with their cash in the coming weeks.

Deadlines across Europe and beyond

Top-flight clubs will also be keeping a keen eye on deadlines across Europe and further afield, though much of the continent is aligned with the Premier League.

Below are selected dates from the winter window across the globe.

  • La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, Eredivisie and Ligue 1 all have deadlines on February 1.
  • Portugal’s window is open until February 4.
  • Chinese Super League clubs can do business until February 26.
  • Mexico’s window shuts earlier than most on January 31, while Russia’s is open until February 25.
